hahaha. So true. I remember renting the old trilogy a few years ago, and I checked out the bonus content. He kept saying how the "story evolved", but that it was always about a couple of twins.
Um I call bullshit on that one Mr havemyheadstucksofarupmyass, cause if it was ALWAYS a story about twins you wouldn't have promoted Luke and Leia as a couple in the original trailers.
Also Star Wars was a lot better before it became so pretentious and had infinte CGI effects cheapen the experience. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9gvqpFbRKtQ

That's because he was played by a girl, and probably she needed the height on top of it.Ack wrote:Nice heels, Greedo.
Not defending the movie. Just stating the facts.

The thing I hate most with science fiction is the fixation with stupid gadgets. Holograms, DNA scanning locks, tricorders, teleportation devices, time machines, hoverboards, anti-gravity shit, you name it. They always change the lives of the people portrayed, yet when stuff lifted from science fiction actually becomes reality, they're absolutely useless and no one cares.Bikeage wrote:There's alot of sci-fi that bores me to death.... Go watch the original trilogy, NOW.I feel kind of ashamed of having never watched any Star Wars movie. I don't really like science fiction, but it does make me feel bad.
Not to mention the perpetual fascination with crackpot science and wrongful application of valid concepts... I'm not even gonna go there.
The problem to me is that science fiction puts a lot of weight in things that are only circumstantial to the stories and, as a result, they bore me to tears. I don't really care about seeing the contraptions they come up with, they're just gimmicks. It's really not the reason why I delve into a work of fiction.
Now, granted, there might be well executed works of science fiction that don't rely on these tropes. And, if so, I might like them. But since I don't like the concept of the genre and that so many works do rely these things I don't care for, I end up missing out on many good movies or books.

I might watch them just to see what the fuss is all about. Even if I don't like them that much, I might be able to at least understand what makes them so loved.ZeroAX wrote:jfrost wrote:I feel kind of ashamed of having never watched any Star Wars movie. They are overrated. Good movies for their time, fun movies to pass the time, but overall I've seen much better and more believable fantasy worlds. (by more believable I mean better defined)
The only reason I love Star Wars is that it gave as the Knights of the Old Republic. The Star Wars story written by actual writers, and not an idiot.
If you are going to watch them, be warned that the Empire Strikes Back is by faaaaaaar the best film in the series, so after that you'll only be disappointed with the rest. I really think that 50% of Star War's popularity is because of this film. The other 50% is Darth Vader and the Lightsabers.

Yeah, I know, I just still think it's funny to see Greedo in high heels.Specineff wrote:That's because he was played by a girl, and probably she needed the height on top of it.Ack wrote:Nice heels, Greedo.

Most good science fiction movies I've seen don't focus on this stuff much at all. It's there. . . because it's science fiction. . . but rarely is it the focal point. No real attention is drawn to any of the technology in star wars, it's just part of the world. Star wars is mostly fantasy though, and doesn't really spend time explaining how a lightsaber works any more than harry potter tries to explain how a magic wand works.jfrost wrote:The thing I hate most with science fiction is the fixation with stupid gadgets.
