No offense but Jay-Z is overrated... Other than Reasonable Doubt, he's never made anything worthwhile for me..dsheinem wrote:An east coast rap fan - but no love for Jay-Z?EvilRyu2099 wrote: I think rap has been dead since the late 90s.. Here are the rap albums I have bought in the past decade:
everything by Jay-Z
everything by Kanye West
Ghostface Killah's "Fishscale"
Ludacris' "Chicken and Beer"
Eminem's "The Emninem Show" and "Encore"
So yeah, with a few exceptions I much prefer rap from the 90s then stuff from the last decade - and just about everything here was by someone who started in or was strongly influenced by the 90s.

I like Eminem decently but Encore was pretty bad too me. You can't go wrong with any members of the Wu Tang. Have you heard Kayne's new album? It is really really good. I really did not like 808's and heartbreaks. I love Reasonable Doubt, the black album, and the first Blueprint by Jay-Z. Everything else by him is kinda hit and miss for me.dsheinem wrote:An east coast rap fan - but no love for Jay-Z?EvilRyu2099 wrote: I think rap has been dead since the late 90s.. Some pretty crazy comments in here. Hip Hop is a massive genre and if you think Tupac and Dre are the best then you are missing out. Dre hasn't put out a great beat in years.
Everybody knows the early to mid 90s was the pinnacle of Hip Hop, but there are still some fantastic and I would say classic records still being made, 2010 has had some blinding albums such as:
El Da Sensei - Global Takeover 2
Celph Titled - Ninety Ninety Now
Rhyme Asylum - Solitary Confinement
Blacastan - Blac Sabbath
We also lost a legend this year in Guru, a rapper who has had more classic albums than Tupac and Biggie combined.
Currently playing Splinter Cell: Blacklist

Gang Starr is a great group and Guru is a great rapper but i wouldn't go so far as to say he is better than Pac or Biggie. I never did like Guru's solo career very much.

Nice. For that, I'll give you a $5.00 bid on the charity auction. PM me which item you want that doesn't exceed $5.00, and I'll place a bid. If someone outbids me, tough luck, but you never know.Razzmatazz wrote:El Segundo?Luke wrote:Now where did I leave my wallet?
Re: Dre's new song
i have never understood why people argued for tupac and biggie smalls to be the "best rappers ever" beyond the whole halo effect thing.
i think biggie is awful, weak lyrics, weak delivery, just weak. tupac i guess is alright just not my thing.
jay-z is also very overrated, imo.
