I've got a 60GB PS3, and when I turn it on, it'll turn off after two minutes.
Here's what happens: I turn it on; the fan starts getting really, really, really loud; a message in the top right corner tells me the PS3 is getting hot and that I need to turn it off; it turns it self off seconds after the warning message.
I've cleaned all of the thermal paste off and applied my own, but it hasn't helped. Besides sending it to Sony, what else could I try or check?
I'd rather save up for a brand new PS3 than send it to Sony.
PS3 overheating problem
Re: PS3 overheating problem
No. There's no yellow light. When it turns it self off it beeps red twice, though.

Re: PS3 overheating problem
Maybe remove the fans and hit them with some compressed air? The dust and possible hair in the motors and on the fans could be causing the fans to work harder than they need to be. This would obviously cause them to be loud and the PS3 wouldn't cool off as efficiently. Since you've taken the steps to reapply thermal paste, I'm sure you probably checked this already though. Just throwing it out there!

I've tried this, but thankscorn619 wrote:Maybe remove the fans and hit them with some compressed air? By the way. The fan is mega loud and it only takes about 10 seconds after turning it on till it goes as loud as it does. It's a lot louder than a hair dryer lets just say that.
Re: PS3 overheating problem
Maybe theres a temperature sensor, thermostat thats gone bad and its telling the system its hotter than it really is? Mind you I know nothing about the internals of the PS3. I have to assume theres something that senses the internal temp of the unit and shuts it down if it gets too hot. Maybe it shit the bed?emurozii wrote:I've tried this, but thankscorn619 wrote:Maybe remove the fans and hit them with some compressed air?
