Input on Xbox 360 or Wii.... Suggestions please

Post by l0whit07 »

Ok so I just moved to San Diego, and it is looking like I am going to be here much longer than anticipated. I also have a place with a decent amount of room. So this opens up the door for getting a new console :D. The DS is nice, but I need something bigger.

I know the most common response to questions like this is: Get what you want to get, other people can't tell you what to get. Those aren't very helpful responses.

I'm asking you all, because the people here are full of gaming knowledge and insight and it will help me weigh the pros and cons.

I'm debating on getting the Red Wii bundle or the Resident Evil Xbox 360. I in no way need either of these, and it strictly me spoiling myself. I own a Wii and PS3 already. My gf is watching over them for me. I don't want to take them from her, because then I would have no excuse for buying one of these. ;)

My thoughts on both of these:

I already own the black Wii. I love the Wii, Nintendo fanboy. I've been searching for an excuse to buy the Red Wii. I'm a sucker for special edition hardware, even more so for anything Mario. Plus I have the 25th anniversary DS so this would compliment it well :D.

Resident Evil 360:

Umm.... I've never owned a 360. The RE 360 is supposed to have the Jasper board, which is supposed to be the board with "most" of the errors fixed. I'm speaking out my ass here, but this seems to be what I have read. So this would somewhat alleviate my worries for the 360 crapping out on me. It's red and that is awesome! Big HDD, HDMI. Much more expensive than the red Wii.

My main attraction to the 360 would be Halo  , come on it's great multiplayer. And also the XBLA. There are some great downloadable games I would love to have. Plus I don't have one, where as I already have a Wii.

So I'm just looking for any insight from you all. What would you do in this case? What do you recommend from experiences?

I would greatly appreciate any thoughts! Thanks everyone.

You already have a Wii and a PS3, even though they aren't accessible to you right now (how long are you in SD?).

Why not get a 360? There are quite a few cool exclusives that you won't have on the Wii or 360, like Fable 2 and 3, Halo games (you said you are interested!), Mass Effect, imported Japanese shoot 'em ups, and.. ummm... there are probably some more. :D I'm sure you can find them!

I agree.
Some of the best 360 games are cheap and are fun. (Although, it does seem like there are an awful lot of first person shooters... :| )

When I was in the barracks, finding someone with an xbox was never hard. We had halo tournaments all the time. Stick with the Wii - it'll broaden your range of games at hand.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

This is just me, but all of the disc-based games I'm interested in for the 360 are either also on the PS3, or the PC. I'd only buy a 360 for the XBLA. The Wii has a lot of fun games, and is a good break from the shooterfest of the other two consoles. In the end, it depends on your own interests I guess.

I'm going to be in San Diego for probably 2 years, as opposed to the 5 months I was planning on.

The Wii is a guarantee that I'll love. So many games I want to play right now that I haven't gotten a chance to play, not to mention VC and all its glory. As people have pointed out, I already own this.

The 360 would be more of an experiment. Games tend to be fairly cheap on it. There are already a handful of games I am very interested in playing... The XBLA has TMNT ARCADE with updated graphics!!! Too cool. Also Perfect Dark, Crazy Taxi... more and more.

The 360 is common in the barracks, but I'd like to have something that is mine. I did see a Goldeneye tournament going on the N64!!!! Anyway that's off topic.

Are there thoughts on the model Xbox I have chosen?? I really am ignorant to the Xbox world. I know my old roommate had a launch model that sounded like a damn freight train was in our room the entire time he was playing.

You speak the truth Mark. I've been driving everyone crazy about getting me the red Wii ever since I heard of it's release! But do I really need 2 Wii's...scratches head.

Flake: the fighting stick you have for the Wii is awesome. Doesn't make the decision any easier.

Oh and thanks Niode! I should consider that one as well. I've never owned the 2600. Or played one for that matter.
