the Beer thread.

Post by the King »

From reading some posts in the snobbish thread it looks like we have some connoisseurs of beer here. So instead of hijacking that thread, we can have a general discussion of beer right here, Suggestions, likes, dislikes, home brewing, food pairings, whatever.

So, I'll start off with one of my standbys. Bells Brewery has grown a ton since I first discovered it while living in Kalamazoo during my college days, but this is still one of my favorites.

Wash the sticky Natto down with this!
Well, good with a burger too!

We should revive that drink thread.

Slight thread-jack. I've never really understood this. I really like good beer, but I never want to drink it when I'm actually thirsty. I know this is just an expression, and a common joke, but do any of you folks actually drink (decent) beer when you're actually thirsty?

This could be an awesome thread if we changed it to:

Post a pic of your beer fridge.

I've got:

2 Duck Rabbit Amber Ale
1 Sam Adams Winter Lager
6 Old Style
6 Miller Lite (I'm not ashamed)
2 Blue Moon harvest pumpkin something or other

Of course not.. Aside from the water, I can't imagine any of the hops or barley or any other ingredient in a beer capable of replenishing the body's need for electrolytes or hydration.
If I'm not mistaken, beer (and liquor) will actually dehydrate you - hence the dry-mouth and hangover in the morning with enough consumption.

Up until an hour ago, I had half a case of Miller High Life sitting on the floor of my apartment. No, I didn't buy it. The only other alcohol I have right now is half a bottle of Vikingfjord Vodka.

Better hold off on that vodka!

"Beer before liquor, never sicker
Liquor before beer, in the clear"

All I have at home are some Miller Highlifes and some Yuengling Black and Tans. The highlifes are because my wife is willing to drink them, and the Yuenglings are because they're great for their price-point and I am generally unwilling to pay a lot for beer except on special occasions.
