Starting a PS1 Collection

Honestly, just about everything Squaresoft released in the US on that console is worth checking out. They took the PS1 as a chance to diversify genre-wise, and they were extremely successful. It makes me genuinely wonder why we don't see more non-RPG Square games these days.

Seriously, there's the obvious Final Fantasy games (including FF Tactics, which is a must-own strategy RPG), Xenogears, Brave Fencer Musashi, Parasite Eve, the Bushido Blade series, Front Mission 3, Ehrgeiz, Tobal No. 1, Einhander, Chrono Cross, Legend of Mana, Saga Frontier, and Vagrant Story. The only Square game I played that I didn't really care for was Saga Frontier 2, and it's not necessarily bad, I've just encountered some serious glitches in the game. Apparently Chocobo Racing wasn't that great either, and I didn't care for the little I saw of Threads of Fate, but compared to the numerous amazing games they developed or published...well, I'd say it's a good ratio.

Damn, The Misadventures of Tron Bonne is an EXPENSIVE game. It looks like a lot of fun, though. I'm sure it's worth the wait of searching.

You will find the world of PS1 collecting to be much more pricey than the world of Gamecube collecting.

I'm starting to realize that; some of the most expensive games for the Gamecube is still just around $50. But, that's probably just because the 'Cube is at the end of its Gamestop selling life, which is where the games are likely the cheapest they will ever be. I expect games for the system to rise in price after they are taken out of major game stores like Gamestop. Because of this, I'm glad I already have a sizable GC collection already.

Not necessarily true. The n64 stuff isn't very expensive either.

I played Misadventures of Tron Bonne when it came out. I don't know if I'd say it's worth the $120 or whatever it's worth now (can't say I honestly think ANY game is worth that) but it is worth trying to hunt down, maybe score a good deal in the wild?

It really is. I formed a launch day line of 1 at my electronics boutique when it came out - but then I tend to do that for any and all Megaman games.

It's really recommended to play Megaman Legends and ML2 before you play Misadventures. Misadventures is a prequel but the humor is more enjoyable when you recognize the cast already.

Actually, ever since square acquired Taito, we have been seeing a lot of non-RPG Square games. Most have not been internally developed, and they usually aren't that great, but they're still there.

Also, in regards to Mega Man Legends, I know that Mega Man 64 is the same game, but are the graphics any cleaner in the N64 version? I know the audio is naturally lower-quality, though.

personally i didn't like Suikoden 1 and 2, but if you're into JRPG's it's definately worth a try
for fighting games get the VS series from Capcom (marvel vs capcom, xmen vs streetfighter etc), Darkstalkers and Rival Schools.. and to top it off.. Jojo's Bizarre Adventure !

Next up ps2 collecting......once they stop making stupid ps2 games. Even if you were to start ps2 collecting today..you might find yourself shelling out a hundred bucks per game for some of the rpg's for that console....just cause

Check out metal gear solid and resident evil 1/2/3 if you into tactical espionage and survival horror games. Also tony hawk pro skater is fun, the 2nd one is the best. Try final fantasy origins for ff1 and ff2, as well as final fantasy chronicles for ff4 and chrono trigger and final fantasy anthology for ff5 and ff6 if you like the older final fantasy games.
