It reflects very poorly on several posters to claim that Mitchell is an asshole without meeting him based on a very biased movie made by Wiebe's friends. Saying that he is a cheater is wrong, period.

I already talked about it here: http://www.racketboy.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=19354&start=50

It's a very cool eastern egg =D

he deserves it, despite what anyone thinks of him, think about the attention that was brought to the Donkey Kong series just because of Billy's first score, not to mention the movie

Billy Mitchell, at least in his public persona, does appear to have a huge ego, but I agree that "The King of Kong" probably dealt with him rather unfairly. Even if he does seem to be a bit of an ass sometimes, I'm not aware of any serious cheating case against him. Also, he seems like he would be a lot of fun to hang out with.

I do have a question, though. This isn't the first time I've heard of "The King of Kong" being referred to as a move "made by Wiebe's friends." I haven't researched this at all, but what is the basis for that claim? I'm not saying it's wrong or anything, but I'd like to know more about it.

I would say that while it may seem ego at first glance, it is something different. It's kind of an "over everything" attitude. He just doesn't care about the movie making him look bad and donated to the "Mitchel is an ass" contest. I think that makes some people feel uneasy causing all this.

I don't have any links or information at hand anymore but the people who made the movie were Wiebe's friends. It's not a degoratory term, they are really their friends.

I recall the director or other person involved talked about how they wanted to tell Wiebe's tale and the reason they knew about this stuff was that it was their friend for years.
