Anyone still play online, old FPS games on PC?

Post by ZeroAX »

I want to play a WW2 online game. I just don't like modern combat games. They mostly take place in the middle east, or some jungle (parody of Venezuela? ) while WW2 games take place in European cities, or the pacific which are much more "fun" places to play war at

Plus old weapons are more fun to use for me. Anyway anyone have games like the old Battlefield ones, or CoD 2? I'm thinking of buying them for the online part, but I don't know if there'll be any people on the servers. This is PC we are talking about, so there might still be a few players, but I want to be able to find at least a couple of games during any hour of the day.

Anyone who can help me with this? Install these old games and check if there are people playing them?

Otherwise, anyone know of any good modern WW2 FPS games? Battlefield 1943 was really fun, but it's console exclusive, and it doesn't have any custom maps :(....and well only 3 maps :(:(

I was going to say I'm up for some Doom, but that's not WWII. I played through CoD single player a while back, but never tried the multiplayer.

I played some COD2 online a few months back via Steam and there were more than enough games running - I think that because COD2 is the last 'traditional' COD title there's still a very healthy userbase out there who prefer that style to the killstreak/perk/knife lunge crap of more recent COD titles.

*edit, I also thought from the topic title that you were talking about *old* FPS games - would love to play some Rise of the Triad online again :D

I play day of defeat source sometimes. Its pretty cool WWII style but its just a huge sniper camp fest with 1 one sniper per team raping everyone or I'm just that bad. The game comes pack in with Counter Strike Source retail game.

I was gonna say, the non-"Modern Warfare" Call of Dutys might be your thing

CoD2 was one of my favorites WWII shooters, closely followed by World at War, then CoD1
If you aren't having a good time, why are you playing?

I still play DoD (not Source) every now and again, though I'm not very good at it. If you start playing BattleField 1942, I'll play with ya. :D

The only old fps I play is Counter Strike: Source, but as others have said I recommend Day of Defeat: Source as an older WWII fps with a good community.

Same here, that game has a learning curve that rivals Counter Strike.

Can you install it, and tell me if there are any active servers?
