It's too bad Power Instinct hasn't gotten more attention. Its controls are smooth, the animation's fluid, it offers two practice modes and a survival feature, includes 8 selectable characters, and has a nifty sense of humor. I actually ran through this twice and discovered a character I really like to use. This is a fighting game I'd happily go back to.

Re: Games Beaten: 2010
I went back and looked at my list and reflected a little bit on my accomplishments this year. I obviously left off a few games (who forgets to put beating Blaster Master on their list?) but no big deal. So here are a few highlights.
Ninja Gaiden. If I lose a life before fighting Bloody Malth, I usually turn the system off. I probably played Ninja Gaiden thirty times this year, but only had one really good run, and when a good run happens it is like you just know you're going to beat the game. And although I could probably recite them word for word, I still watch the cut scenes. However, this was the first time I watched the ending and though "Man, Ryu looks really young". To me, this is one of the best games ever made and you'll see it on my 2011 list too.
Blaster Master. Not sure how I remembered to put Overdrive on my list but not the original. The accuracy of the controls, the graphics, the environments, and the music are all incredible. Not to mention the game is tough. The final, final boss is somewhat easy, but that doesn't take away from the game at all. Each level is memorable in its own unique way. I can't tell you how many times I have paused the game just to listen to the music. The game isn't forgiving, but I don't mind that. Blaster Master to me is the definition of a fun adventure NES game.
Batman. Another homerun of a game. Like Ninja Gaiden, if I die before the later stages of the game, I turn it off. This is also the only game I always play with the nes advantage, as a rapid punch is a must for me. I'm still impressed with the games graphics and overall feel. Sunsoft really got batman's cape right, and to today it looks awesome. The difficulty factor, once again, is way up there but is beatable without using any cheats if you practice. Another A+ of a game.
Top Gun. I finally beat this sob. That's about all there is to it.
There are plenty of other games I could comment on, but so far these stuck out the most for me.

I would consider using rapid punch the same thing as using a cheat code...Luke wrote:This is also the only game I always play with the nes advantage, as a rapid punch is a must for me.......

Re: Games Beaten: 2010
I'll have to play a card here. I could and have successfully beaten Batman with a original nes controller, but when you have one hand, and your good hand suffers from terrible arthritis, I think I deserve a pass on using a rapid button.dsheinem wrote:I would consider using rapid punch the same thing as using a cheat code...Luke wrote:This is also the only game I always play with the nes advantage, as a rapid punch is a must for me.......

With all the typing, piano playing, game playing, etc., I do, I'm just glad my thumb hasn't fallen off. My thumb actually "clicks" almost every time I bend it. Sparring definitely doesn't help it either.
Re: Games Beaten: 2010
I still can't believe you beat Top Gun, you son of a bitch. I wasted so much of my youth trying to beat that game.
And what ever happened to Sunsoft? They made some great games.
