It seems like it would be a pretty good idea to dust off Aero the Acro-Bat's wings. As a character with the potential for flight you can immediately remove the mundane relatively flat level design you'd have to use for any slower character (sonic breaks free of all that because he's supposedly fast enough to just run off ramps at a 34634 miles an hour). The game itself wasn't ever incredibly popular so the developer wouldn't be nearly as tied to emulating the original's elements to please it's audience as a few of those other titles. I could imagine the gameplay being probably similar to Spyro the Dragon. If in the right hands this easily would have the chance to be a pretty stellar modern 3D platformer.

No matter how much I love Ristar, I know it wouldn't make a good 3D platformer. Alex Kidd would probably work much better, since it has seen so many genres that there is no concrete idea of what an Alex Kidd game should be. Thus, Sega would have a lot of creative liberty with the game [actually, that last sentence sounded like a REALLY bad idea when I read it back to myself].

I have an awesome ideà of how Ristar can work in 3d. Hard to explain here.

I think Ristar could be done on the wii with the pointing controls.

Swinging mechanics can work, just look at the Bionic Commando reboot.
And yes, I did like that game.
Here's one that has been begging for a revival though,
Vectorman.

Anyone played Super Mario Galaxy 2? Ristar could be done by controlling him the way you control yoshi

I was thinking of the camera in Crash Bandicoot 2. And some gameplay elements. Like in the orignial youre moving slow. Oh wait... It can be hard to catch enemies

It'd be possible to use a lockon system like Sonic's homing attack too, for attacking enemies at least.
