GOTY!
Re: GOTY!
I have to agree with Super Meat Boy. Though the PC version has had some issues (which have mostly been resolved) it was still the most incredible experience Ive had all year. And just because Ive finished the story on the Light world doesn't mean Im done! I still have to do the Dark world, the Cotten Alley bonus world, collect all the bandages and get A+ on all levels. There is so much to do its mind boggling.

Re: GOTY!
That would be my pick too easily, but I haven't really played a lot this year. Of what I have played, Bayonetta, War for Cybertron and Deathsmiles were great too. I think War for Cybertron would be my sleeper hit of the year. A lot of big name titles didn't grab my interest. I really don't give a rat's ass about Halo, Call of Duty, etc. I'm so tired of the shooter genre, which has long past worn out its welcome for me. I was hyped up for Scott Pilgrim, but found it a pretty mediocre excuse for a beat'em up. I truly am surprised by the amount of love it has received and wouldn't be surprised to see a lot of people picking it for DLC game of the year. I'm not easily swayed by style alone, which Scott Pilgrim is chock full ofthelolotov wrote:I concur.zombi_ryu wrote:Mass Effect 2, no question.
But overall, it has been a disappointing year.
Final Fantasy XIII was a bit of a letdown for me as well, with its combat system being what saved it for me.

I tend to play games well after they get released. Especially if they are very time consuming.
So my game of the year is fallout 3. heh. It was one of the only games that made me lose sleep this year. I don't think I'd pick new vegas as it seems like it is just fallout 3 all over again. In my 100 hours of play i think i got enough of it.
If i had to pick one that came out this year though, i'd pick maybe battlefield bad company 2. It was the first time i played battlefield online and i really enjoyed it. A much better team based experience than deathmatch in COD.
I would've picked mass effect 2, as i do love the francise, but it really didn't win me over. There was a lot i would've changed in that game.
I played the shit out of VVVVVVV and super meat boy lately though. Those would be my picks for downloadable or indie GOTY.
There are a ton of AAA titles i haven't gotten around to yet though. God of war 3, New vegas, fable III, dead rising 2, bioshock 2, Heavy rain, Rocket knight, mario galaxy 2, DeathSpank, Valkeria chronicles 2, and vanquish to name a few.
There were a couple games that REALLY let me down. APB and Kirby's epic yarn.

That's true, but in retrospect I do think 2009 was better, at least for me anyway. There were some games that really blew me away like Batman:Arkham Asylum and Brutal Legend. Plus, some other games I thoroughly enjoyed like X-Men:Wolverine Originsnickfil wrote:everyone says that every year.thelolotov wrote:But overall, it has been a disappointing year.

2009 had Uncharted 2 and Demon's Souls, which pretty much blew everything this year could think up way out the water.Gamerforlife wrote: That's true, but in retrospect I do think 2009 was better, at least for me anyway. I will admit that this year was really great if you are primarily a Wii gamer. Tatsunoko vs Capcom, Kirby's Epic Yarn, Super Mario Galaxy 2, Donkey Kong Country Returns, Sin and Punishment: Star Successor and a lot more. (Just too bad 'Wii gamer' is something I no longer consider myself.)
