What Video Card Should I Get?

Post by ReddMcKnight »

OK. So Niode told me to get an ATI Radeon 5770 Video Card to play Final Fantasy XIV. The Problem: It's 200 Dollars, which I don't have. So...which one is right below that, or is there a cheap one I can get that will definitely run the game?

It would really help me find you one, if you could list your price range? :)

That game has some high system requirements. I'm not sure how cheap you could actually go and still be able to run the game. This card is the actual recommended one and it's $150. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6814121390

Final Fantasy XIV is a buggy mess that isn't worth messing with for a good few months from my experience with it at a friend's place.

Hold on to your money and keep tabs on the card you want. In 3-6 months it'll be a whole lot cheaper and FF XIV will be a crapton smoother.

Edit!: Personally I'm an Nvidia and Intel man, too many burnt out old cards and dead CPU's on the other fronts. But, I'm known to run AMD and ATI at times for cost effectiveness.

Remember though, saving a few bucks is never worth the cost of a whole new PC or graphics card.
My Consoles:

listen to the man, he is wise.

The biggest trap you can fall in when buying hardware, is buying something you won't need until the future.

If the game is going to be good enough to play in 6 months, it's not worth it to buy a graphics card for it right now. In 6 months the same ( X ) card will be much cheaper and there will also be new cards coming out, so you'll get better performance with the same money and a little bit of patience.

Here here!! Me too. Nivida = meant for Gaming. I especially go with EVGA. Never had a problem with any of their cards and the warranty and upgrade services are great!

If you want a cheap card Im always reading that the 8800GTX is a great card. Going up to the 9800GTX is also an option.
The higher you go the more $$ you will spend.

We could help you out again wed need a price range for sure.

VGM out...

I don't really game on PCs other than emulation but, every card I've bought was around $50~70 and they've handled most PC games I've played (not to the best settings of course).
 (FC, AVFC, NES, SFC x2, SNES, N64, GC x2, Wii x2)*(G&W x7, GB, GBpocket, GBASP, DS-L x2)
(GEN, SS x3, DC x3)*(PCE-Duo)*(Xbox:500GB)*(NGCDZ, NGPC)*(PS1, PStwo, PS3:160GB, PSP.3K)
