Buying Chrono Trigger---pricing question.

Honestly, just get the DS version. I have the SNES version and it's good, but not good enough for 150 USD. I paid like 60 for my cart only a couple years back and regretted it. It's solid, not the be all end all.

I already have the DS version. Content-wise and price-wise, it is the best version to get, however, I always prefer the original cartridges to re-releases/ports/remakes.
But to each his own.

for the most complete experience, get the DS version and play it oldschool style (no touching!)
but for collection purposes, defo the SNES version

I can confirm that. I have 3 CIB JP Chrono Trigger games. There are so many of them that they're often bundled with a "10 Super Famicom games for 1,000 yen" deals. Basically a buck each - helluva difference yah.

Why not just get the JP CIB of any expensive US release and get that RetroUSB flash cart to play the English one on real hardware?? In the long term you'll save a ton of money and virtually have the same experience. Anyhoo~

Well... Chrono Trigger is one of two US releases that I want a physical copy of that are expensive. Everything else is going to be cheap so it isn't a big deal to splurge on a game every now and then.

I was inquiring more about the complete set. Also, I got conformation about the complete Japanese copies being cheaper. I still got something out of this thread.

What is the appealing part of owning a physical copy of the US version versus the JP version (and having a flash cart as well)?
As I have many of the "legendary" or regular "expensive games" that are frequently sought after that I bought at retail when they came out, I don't think I could justify spending several hundred dollars on a single game - I don't think I like any game that much.

Once upon a time, I lucked into a cart-only copy on ebay for $30 shipped. In very good condition, as well.

Just so happened that the mailbox at my apartment complex was broken into the same week of the delivery.
