Mecha arcade game?

Post by Veno »

Alright, so when I was a little kid, I remember this badass mecha game at the arcades. I've only played 2 different machines, and both seemed to be a different version. In one, I chose to play as a blue robot, in the other, I chose a red and white one.

So here's the layout. There's 2 black mecha cockpit styled joysticks. On each joystick, there's a red firing trigger. If I recall, the left stick was used for movement, and the right was used for aiming.

I was a little kid when playing both these games, so memories are hazy, but I'm pretty sure they were from the same series.

Final details, the game was a third person 3d game, with the camera perspective directly behind your mech. It had one-on-one battles, but I never got passed the 2nd opponent, so I'm not sure if there were matches that outnumbered you.

I'm sure you guys can find this one out.

Hmmm, all I can think of is Virtual On and Cyber Sleds. Cyber Sleds had a more stylized cab, and i think red and blue vehicles. But it was with these tank like things not mechs.

It sounds like Virtual On. Blue one was Temjin, red and white was probably Fei Yen. This look familiar?

Bingo, it must be this. I never knew it was also on the Saturn. This was one of those cabs I saw as a kid that I really wanted to have in my house. On the top, it had a row of mugshots of each mech, and had a good list of characters to choose from. Thanks guys.

Versions are also on other systems including Dreamcast and PS2. The PS2 versions use the two analog sticks or digital pads and the four primary buttons on top. Sega Ages is a good one to get. You can mod a dual digital stick to work as that direction pad and four main buttons.
