Hey all, my first post here. I hope its in the relevant section.
this is a longshot, but does anyone know much about these units? Ive got one myself and im finding it next to impossible to upgrade the firmware on the thing. Currently its on 1.41B but the console itself doesent seem to play n64 roms (it loads them into its ram fine but once you turn on the n64 the screen stays blank. i have the cartridge attachment to bypass the n64 security chips). I should note my n64 is a PAL unit.
I believe its got the 256mb ram expansion cards in the bottom, but im unable to verify this as the 1.41B firmware doesent have any of the test menus that the later firmwares have.
Basically, ive tried updating via CD (tried many different file names and none of them seem to work) and ive also got myself a parallel to usb cable to connect the V64 to my computer, but the dos program is a bit tricky to use and if im honest, i cant get my head around it.
If theres anyone who knows what theyre doing with these little units and can perhaps help me upgrade the firmware or get the roms working on it id appreciate the help!

I'm not sure if any one here on Racketboy can help, but you might wanna check out Tototek.com, they deal in these things. I know Tomy carries parts for the SNES copiers, including firmware. The site has forums, too, which you might get more help on.

I'm not sure that those USB to parallel cables will work for a copier.
Re: Bung Doctor V64 Help
Plus you have to use actual DOS not just MSDOS crap they fudged into all Windows above 98.gtmtnbiker wrote:I'm not sure that those USB to parallel cables will work for a copier.

thanks guys, im beginning to think that the cable and the dos program wont work together. when you start the program it asks for which port the parallel cable is attached to, and it gives me 4 ports. strange as i only have 3 usbs (perhaps its counting my laptop pci card too? or maybe its just confused as im running windows xp).
i wish i could update via cd but everytime i burn a bios to disc, the doctor 64 thinks its a rom and then tells me its ok to play game. ive read that you need the disc in iso9660 format and DAO etc... and to name the bios .bin or .v64 and none of the methods ive found worked.

is there anyway of me finding out which comms port is the usb? (it might not be relevant though as posted above, the dos program is designed for 98 and previous)Niode wrote:It will list all of your coms ports. COM ports aren't USB. COM ports are old fashioned serial ports. On more recent PCs that still have them, it will look like a Genesis/Megadrive joystick port and will be teal. Some 15+ year old PCs will also have a wider 15 pin ports as well.

i dont have a pc old enough with the 25 pin parallel as found on the v64, so i figured a usb to parallel may do the trick. apparently not! haha.Hobie-wan wrote:COM ports aren't USB.
