Had a blast with this one. I almost beat it about a year ago, but gave up when I got stuck on the third level. Played through it tonight though without a hitch. :)

I still don't think I'll hit 120 by the end of the year. Maybe 110, but we will see I guess. I'm still playing Fallout 3, and that is taking up most of my gaming time. I'm doing the Broken Steel Quests now, and on my way back to the Citadel to turn in a quest objective, I stumbled upon a certain event that triggered the Mothership Zeta DLC. Having a lot of fun with that right now!

I play Retro Game Challenge on my DS whenever I get downtime at work, which hasn't really been often lately. It's a great game though, and should be played by EVERYONE here!

I may pick up Phoenix Wright on the iPhone again here soon. I made it to the Steel Samurai case and got a bit burned out. The game is fun, but doesn't really lend itself well to quick play sessions.

I did try to play Galaga Legions again tonight, but I really suck at Adventure Mode. I can make it to the end of the second stage before I get a game over... If I feel up to it, I may make it my goal to beat that game before shelving it again.

12. Amnesia: The Dark Descent (PC)
13. Phantasmagoria 2: A Puzzle of Flesh (PC)
14. Halo: Combat Evolved (PC)
15. VVVVVV

I beat this game, yet I still feel frazzled. It's so hard and frustrating. I also played it almost exclusively on my laptop while commuting on a bus. This game is really fucking hard on a bus. It requires total precision and that just isn't easy on hilly roads without a seat belt and constatly needing to make sure someone doesn't bump into you while walking down the aisle. I think I looked like I was in pain for most of those bus rides. heh. Nevertheless, I came to love this game.

My final stats:
Trinkets Found: 11/20
Game Time: 1:57:58
Total Flips: 3503
Total Deaths: 785
Hardest Room (with 87 deaths): The Final Challenge

I agree, it's tough as nails and requires extreme precision, but it's so awesomely wicked at the same time. I'm thinking about blasting through it again soon, maybe this weekend. Hopefully I can change the settings so that the damn game doesn't lag.

I have to agree with YoshiEgg25. This game is so ridiculous. Just making Octodad walk sends me into peels of laughter. This is one game where the worse the gameplay is the better. Everything is so awkward to control when you only have floppy tentacles. Loved it.

Also, it's worth it just for the "I love you Octopus" theme song.

I also agree about VVVVVV. I did really enjoy the game, despite how frustrating it is. I love games like this that take a simple gameplay mechanic (in this case, flipping gravity) and then fully explore every possibility for using that mechanic. I think Portal and Braid also do this really well. Portal gets you to think of every possible way you could use the Portal gun and Braid gets you to think of dozens of ways you can bend time to your advantage.

Awesome game, beat it with the nintendo advantage. I doubt I'll get to 30 before the years over. Still working on fallout new vegas, ocarina of time, and paper mario.

Since Thanksgiving:
  • VVVVVV (PC)
  • Portal (PC)
  • Octodad (PC)
  • Nelson Tethers: Puzzle Agent (PC) NEW
Total: 4

A fun game, though a bit short unfortunately. Interesting story, oddball characters, and puzzles ranging from pretty easy to insanely hard are on display. The ending almost killed it though. I thought that I had gotten a bad ending from not completing all the puzzles or something, but no, there's only one ending. It's possible that Telltale is making it like every other game they make: an episodic game. So maybe this is only a cliffhanger. I hope so.

First 50 Games for 2010 (Click for names)
New Super Mario Bros. - DS
Dead Rising 2: Case Zero - XBLA
Left 4 Dead 2: The Passing - 360
Fable II - 360
Fabie II: Knothole Island - 360
Fabie II: See the future - 360
Final Fight - XBLA
Sonic 4 - XBLA
Portal: Still Alive - XBLA
Gears of War 2 - 360
Metroid - NES
Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow - DS
Metro 2033 - 360
Skate. - 360
Star Wars The Force Unleashed - 360
Star Wars The Force Unleashed II - 360
Medal of Honor - 360
GoldenEye 007 - Wii

While a pretty solid shooter for the Wii, my only real issue with this game is how it tries to be a 'modern' shooter which is fine, but it doesnt do it as well as others.

I found the Wii controls utterly horrid, I ended up playing it through with a Gamecube controller, which a lot of people dont like for FPS, but it worked much better than the other 2 options for this game.

Seriously. That was the worst video game ending I've ever seen. It took all the plot build up and game potential and flushed it down the toilet. I was really enjoying the game and the story, but the ending almost nullified my enjoyment of the whole thing.

I actually beat Genetos before VVVVVV and Octodad, but I knew I was going to add it to my Racketboy Advent Calendar, so I waited to mention it here.

Genetos is a great concept. You travel through the history of the shmup genre. Each new stage and power up is a new generation in the genre's historical lineage. The concept is implemented fairly well too. They don't quite nail the graphics exactly to feel like perfect replicas of each generation, but it's mostly on point and the game is a lot of fun. I played it from start to finish in one sitting because it was hard to put down.

Finally, a shmup I can beat! This game is a lot of fun. I was able to beat it on beginner in 29 minutes 56 seconds, but for a free game, it's definitely worth a go. Maybe this will be the game that makes me good at shmups.
