Nintendo has what I would argue to be the greatest customer service in the world among large companies. Easily trumps anything any other game company does. They research your problem if they don't know, and if they can't fix it, they tell you who can and give you their contact information. Unfortunately, if that's EA, Ubisoft, etc., you just run into a wall like you said.Ziggy587 wrote:"Dear Nintendo, Why did you stop making copies of Super Paper Mario?" You think I'd get an answer?

Yeah, that's true. I've read great things about their customer service. Every one says it's top-notch.

I been wondering this about Sin and Punishment for the Wii. Clearanced at Target, not slotted for their new displays. Very curious what really is going on inside Nintendo. Two very good titles, but to certain gamers only?

Your problem is that you were dealing with a front line person who was clueless. In situations like this, you ask to deal with their manager and work your way up the chain.Ziggy587 wrote:"Dear Nintendo, Why did you stop making copies of Super Paper Mario?" You think I'd get an answer?
I don't bother asking the companies anymore after I contacted Ubisoft via email about Far Cry Vengeance. I told support the game was full of bugs, some of which cause the game to freeze, and will there ever be any patches to fix the problems. My reply was, "Your disc is damaged you should take it back to the retailer for a replacement." So I tell them my disc is fine, the bugs are in the game code, I'm just wondering if there will ever be any patches to correct the problems. Support replies, "If your disc came damaged you should take it back to the retailer for a replacement." I reply back explaining that my disc is fine, if I got a replacement it would have the same problems, and that it I feel like I'm taking to a wall. Support replies, "If the disc is damaged then take it back for a replacement. I'm marking this case as solved."

I've had good responses from Nintendo before when I complained about the lack of colors/options for the US market compared to Japan, etc.
If you don't complain, no one at Nintendo will know that there's customer demand for Super Paper Mario. On your behalf, I filed a complaint asking about why it's not available new anymore.

I think I need to make a trip to target.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

You know what's funny about their response?Ziggy587 wrote:

I can just the see the support guy thinking, "Patch? Why does this guy want to put a patch on his broken disc? Just take it back!". Maybe you should have put a bandage or some tape on it Ziggy.
Ah customer service.
Anyway, I'm interested to see what nintendo has to say about the situation. It didn't occur to me until after reading this topic, but I haven't seen new copies of the game for months. Mario titles don't just disappear off the shelves.
I'd be inclined to agree with benderx that it might become part of an upcoming player's choice line, but I imagine they'd announce such a thing months beforehand.

Re: Is Super Paper Mario out of print right now?
That reminds me. The first response I got back from Nintendo was an idiot. The woman didn't read the email and just gave a canned response. I replied back and said please read my email again and respond correctly.
The second response I got was for someone more knowledgeable. He said that it really came down to popularity and Super Paper Mario wasn't as popular as the other games that are still selling (e.g, Mario Kart Wii, Super Mario Galaxy, etc) so they did a limited production run and that's it. Some of the other titles not available are Super Mario Strikers and a few others.
After I got his response, I thought about it for a moment and realized the following:
1. They would have to produce some quantity of the games to store in a warehouse somewhere and ship to retailers.
2. They would have to run advertising campaigns, retailer promotions, etc for the game again.
3. Stores have limited shelf space. There's a reason why we don't see all 400-500 games available at KMart, Target for sale.
I can see when we move to pure electronic download format, the games will always be available for sale. This is hard to do now for physical media.

Re: Is Super Paper Mario out of print right now?
Yeah, but I don't buy that BS. I'm not saying it's not true. They probably did stop making copies because it wasn't selling as good as they wanted. But I really think that's BS. Maybe Target and Wal Mart don't want Paper Mario sitting on their selves forever, but that's no reason why I can't buy it from online retailers. The game seems to be in pretty high demand, judging from what I see on eBay. Used CIB copies are selling between $30-45. This game, at this point, wouldn't be $50 retail anymore. So I really don't care to pay this high of priced for a used game.
