Re: WHAA?! N64 Joystick Replacement (Like Gamecube Stick)??
I was considering one of these a while back. Idea is that the analog sticks in N64 controllers are worn out pretty badly over time, esspecially with games like mario party. You just open the controller, pop out the old joystick module, and pop this one in, and you have a functional N64 controller.
I lucked out and snagged a pretty decent N64 controller at a pawn shop for $5, so I never resorted to buying this part.

If you aren't having a good time, why are you playing?

These have been around for a while. Collectors Cards and Games sells them for $7, IIRC.

Yeah nothing new, you can find them every where. And be careful, a few people on this forum has said they bought a replacement joystick and got a worn out one.
That site says they're brand new. Usually I would very much doubt that, but then I read the description. It says it's made by a third party. Then I took a closer look at the picture, and it doesn't look exactly like a first party N64 joystick. Not EXACTLY like it, anyway. If these are indeed brand new replacement parts that some one got made up, then it's an awesome find. I've never seen/heard of that before.

Yeah, these don't seem to be recycled/new 1st party sticks. From the reviews/comments, they seem to be new made replacement parts and are like a gamecube stick. Which makes it a must buy for me (if not just to try out!)

Let us know if you get one, I definitely want to know more about them.
Yeah, they kinda look more like a Cube stick. But the thing is, if it's just plug and play with a 1rst party N64 controller, then it can't be made like an actual Cube stick (since they're two different types of sticks). So that being said, are these replacements sticks gonna wear out easily? There's a 99% chance they're made in China. I would like to open one up and examine it, so that I could compare it to an actual N64 stick.
edit: There's this review...

This guy says he opened it up and confirmed it's "the exact same mechanism as a Gamecube stick." My question is... HOW? I'm pretty sure to use that type of joystick on a 1rst party N64 controller you would need some sort of IC. In fact, we were talking about this very same thing before. Remember that thread? For people hoping this is like the original, it's not. It's actually more like a Gamecube analog stick. I even opened mine up to confirm that it is actually the exact same mechanism as a Gamecube stick. While it works, for people who like the feel of the original N64 stick over the Gamecube Stick might be disappointed.
Re: WHAA?! N64 Joystick Replacement (Like Gamecube Stick)??
I was going to open mine up, but I couldn't do it non-destructively. It does feel more like a GC thumbstick. That's a plus in my book. If it's like a GC stick inside, then it's not likely to break anytime soon. Also, it looks like there's plenty of room for an IC inside the module.
Now I just wish I could find a replacement thumbstick for my CD-I remote, heh.

Re: WHAA?! N64 Joystick Replacement (Like Gamecube Stick)??
I remember seeing various threads on the matter. Most about modding the stick and having to use third party controllers. Racketboy's post about "Best 3rd Party N64 Controller" sparked this
then I investigated a bit and threw it up on the boards. I'm intrigued to say the least.NJC wrote:I have a Makopad which works well (essentially a Superpad but clear), but doesn't get the sensitivity quite right for some games, and my thumb tends to slip off of that gigantic stick. Kind of awkward but you get used to it.
My vote would have to go towards the classic controller with a replacement third party joystick from the nintendo repair shop (if this counts as a 'third party controller'). The things are brand new but aren't reproductions - they are more like gamecube joysticks and mine is holding up just fine so far.
Unfortunately I haven't had the pleasure of trying a hori mini pad.

I'm definitely gonna have to order 1 to open it up. I'm too intrigued. If I like what I find, I'll probably order a few more for myself.
I was gonna mod the hell out of two N64 controllers so that I could get a Gamecube stick on a first party controller. Never had the time to do it though. If this is indeed like a Cube controller, it would save me a lot of hassle.
