Personally I think the first Halo should have replaced Reach and The Original Super Mario Bros. should have replaced Super Mario World. Call of Duty 4 definitely should have replaced Modern Warfare 2. Then Metal Gear Solid should have been somewhere along with Resident Evil 4 and perhaps also the original Resident Evil but it's optional. Silent Hill 1 or 2. Maybe Fallout 3 and Bioshock. GTA 3 probably. Basically I think a list like this shouldn't be like a "best games ever list" but a "games that made the most impact list." Either way I personally don't think the list was very well constructed.

whaaat? You crazy.

SMW is perfection of a genre.

Yes but Super Mario World didn't save video games from fading out completely. It didn't define what would later be known as the 2D platformer in it's purest form. It didn't come first. And it didn't do anything drastically new that the past games in it's series didn't already do (Example: Resident Evil 4 completely changed the way Resident Evil games played so despite being a sequel it is still worth mentioning as a "revolutionary" game).

I hate stupid lists like these. Everyone likes different kinds of games and genres. So maybe the person who wrote it should rename it to "12 games to play before the author dies".

but the article isn't the 12 Most Revolutionary Games. I'd agree with you there though. It's an article about 12 that should be experienced by everyone. In that case, I'd think choosing 12 "perfect" games, or games that provide an especially fulfilling experience is more important. Say Shadow Of The Colossus for instance. That's an experience.

I would put Super Mario All Starts w/ Super Mario World on my list. Technically it's one game, and it's awesome.

Well "games to play before you die" seems a bit vague to me. It sounds like it could just as easily be the most revolutionary games as it could be simply the best games ever or something like what you said the whole "best experiences" type thing. Going with your translation of what the author meant I would agree with the Super Mario World decision.
