do you have the latest drivers for your graphics card installed?
EDIT
Also did you install the last patch released for the game?

I have a similar graphics card (ATI HD 3450). I haven't tried that particular game, but I have played many games from that time period. I use Vista 64.
If there is a lot of tearing and you have updated your drivers, you might want to try fiddling with the graphics options for the game. I bought Beyond Good & Evil from gog and when I first began the graphic tearing was so bad that the game was unplayable. I found an option for something called "Vertex Processing". Once I turned that off, it ran smooth as can be.

I also have BG&E from gog and had the same problem, and I found a strange fix for it. I wanted to capture game footage, and well while I was recording game footage with Fraps the game was running perfectly.

Re: Help Hardware for Pc (run games from around the year 2000)
I cant install xp on my current laptop. Its a Dell Studio 1737 and various google searches all came up with other forum threads suggesting not even to bother trying. I think when it was released nobody was impressed with vista and the lack of downgradabilty got the laptop some bad reviews.
I've checked my graphic settings a few times and cant find anything for vertex processing, Ive been pointed towards changing my vertical refresh rate by other people but that doesnt seem to work.
Im going to try manually installing new drivers and see if that helps.
Thanks for all the help so far guys.

I haven't slept for ten days, because that would be too long.

You could Slipstream your WIN XP Pro install disc with all three service packs to a new CDR. A chance the install will go smoother.
