Looks like I need a Game Genie, does it matter which one?

Post by Scooter »

I got an old EA game, Zany Golf, which apparently will require a Game Genie to play it on my particular Genesis so I'm now looking for a Game Genie. The upside is that this should also allow me to play import Genesis/MD games. Just what I need, more avenues for collecting even more games!

Anyway, it looks like there are two versions of the Game Genie out there, a black version and a gold version. Are there any meaningful difference between them? Should I be looking for one version or another?

TIA.

To my knowledge (I've used both versions) the differences are purely cosmetic - my guess is that it was cheaper to ditch the gold foil for the more traditional black after the first production run.

Good luck!

Oh, and you shouldn't need to enter any GG codes for this lockout bypass - the fact that the GG is telling the Genesis "I'm a valid cart" should be enough.
