Anyone have this problem with your Laserdisc player?

Post by TheyCallMeTheSwede »

I have recently purchased 3 laserdisc movies, but 2 out of 3 have audio problems, I have Willy Wonka (25th anniversary edition), the problem I have with this one is that the right audio is all staticy but I can hear the music on the left and I have what I do believe is the last re-release of Wizard of Oz, the problem I have with this one is that I have a clash of spanish and french audio (spanish on the left, and french on the right), I do think its because of the Laserdisc player I am using is way too old to handle anything released after 95 or 96 (I think of that because I have the same problem with my copy of Toy Story).

The model I have is a Pioneer LD-V2200

If some movies have great audio then not the audio cable connection.

Some older release discs do have audio range issues, but thats from the studio pressing of the time. I have a few Laser discs with Laser Rot crapping out the video, a couple may even have audio issues because of the rot. Do the discs in question display increased grainy effects in the pic?

I know newer rereleases have dual support of digital and analog sound. Some discs have two additional channels for language, commentary and music only tracks. Perhaps selecting different audio channels may help?

I know its defiantly not laser rot, since its does not have any grain on the video, I have tried the audio options, but the thing is, it only solved half the problem, my laserdisc player only switch speakers like Mono Left, Mono Right, and Stereo. But if watch something like Willie Wonka it only plays the music and no speech or sound fx, and Wizard of Oz I can only play the movie with Spanish (left mono) and French (right mono) and with stereo I get both played at the same time, I could not watch in english, even if I try. In all honesty, I am thinking about getting another laserdisc player (like something beyond 95 or 96), plus I needed a model that has S-Video, the one I had was handed to me from a friend of mine who works at the schools tech.

Definitely not picking up a couple channels. Sounds (sorry) like Willie Wonka has a music only channel option. My guess is your player doesn't support Digital Sound which is maybe where the full audio including speech is located. Strange though, I never heard of a Laser Disc that did not have all the movie sounds in analog even if it has that digital sound channel. Maybe certain movies with all the extra sound tracks? After all Lasers only have the four audio tracks to select from.

Waiting for Modman, another Laser aficionado.

EDIT
I just reread your last Reply. You are getting two language channels playing at once? That definitely sounds like something wrong with the player.
Make and Model number of you Laser Player?
