For those who are playing GT5, are you using a wheel or the PS3 gamepad?

I recently started playing Project Gotham Racing on the original xbox and I'm wondering if I should get a wheel for it. Is it easier to control a car with a wheel?

I can't play Forza Motorsport 3 without my force feedback wheel. Using a controller just doesn't feel right. I really want to make a clutch mod and a gear shifter mod for it. Just don't have the materials to build one at the moment :(

The photo mode in this game is freaking awesome, you can get some really nice shots;

I learned GT with the dual shock, the sixaxis works great for me. no interest in messing with any wheel controllers.

one thing is pissing me off though, I can't buy rims for my Golf or the Lupo I just won. I'm reading you can't buy rims for standard cars...this is just ass if it's true. I sure hope that will change with a patch. buying rims was a big fun part of the game and now with more detailed models it'd be all the more fun...I was looking forward to it... :(

Ok, this is going to sound nitpicky and a bit graphics whore-ish. But I finally played the demo of GT5 at a Target store kiosk the other night when something happened graphically that really turned me off on this game.

For the demo run, I decided to pick the Ferrari Enzo car since I love Ferrari's and it's listed as a premium car, so that meant that I could try playing the game in the new cockpit mode, which was supposed to look ultra-realistic and all that.

Anyway, I started a race and began cycling through all the different camera modes as I'm driving around the track just to get an idea of what the new game looks like compared to the previous games on PS2.. when all of a sudden I lost control of the car and began sliding against the wall in the third-person, "behind the car" view. And when I did that I noticed that the passenger side mirror was actually "disappearing" right into the wall as if this were an early 3D racing game on the PS1 or Sega Saturn!

Honest to God, after all these years of waiting I thought that was so lame that I just dropped the controller and walked away. I mean, it's bad enough that there was no scraping effect of my car sliding against one of the walls of the race track at high speed, but to actually see part of the car disappear into the wall as if it were a Gran Turismo game on the PS1 seemed ridiculous to me.

I know a lot of people have complained about the lack of damage. But that's horrible for a game of this magnitude.

No offense, but what should the developers have done about it. really. think about it. Is that really that bad? would you have wanted it to be damaged or fall off?

For every minor graphical error I've encountered, this game has produced dozens of awe-inspiring moments. You can focus on some shoddy clipping, or dynamic shadows flickering, or fog and smoke causing pixelation and blow GT5's graphical flaws totally out of proportion - or, you can focus on the beauty of the game as a whole and, more importantly, the fact that it offers such a deep and compelling driving experience that is unrivalled on console.

I'm not the biggest fan of driving sim's by any means, but without a doubt GT5 is on course to be my game of the year. It's got it's faults, more than it's fair share some might say given the development time, but none of that is really important in the face of what an engrossing and enjoyable game this is.

Do you track your Challenger? I would be curious as to see how well it would do in an autocross or track setting. I test drove the Japanese version (taillights modified to meet JPN standards) of the SRT-8 in a 6-spd, and that thing is a beast...when I wanted to go in a straight line. The location of the parking brake is strange for a sports car, it would be cool if it had a hand lever. I have seen some streetable Challengers at the track, but turns seemed to be its handicap, and the apexes is where I live. Perhaps Chrysler will fix this if they decide to build the challenger on a unique platform, instead of sharing it with the 300C/Charger. A black Challenger is one of the sexiest things on the road. My current car is also a RWD V8, but nothing like the Challenger.

The real thing beats a sim, but the real thing costs a lot of money. Track time, insurance, track tires, etc etc. Whenever I took my old GT-R or WRX to the track, I spent at least 15,000 yen for an entire day, not including gas. Unless of course, you street race...which is something I am completely against.

Anyway, it's too bad you didn't like the game. Many aspects of it give me the same feeling as an open track day at Tsukuba or Laguna Seca (The only tracks in the game I have driven in real life). I can say Tokyo R246, but I was just city driving and not racing.
