Ok I get it.
I don't. The games is why you buy a given console.
A lot of game ideas offered here to help you decide.

I guess he's just asking what the hardware differences are if he were to buy a wii, not necessarily whether to get a wii or not.

I was wondering about the SD card for the wii. It sounds like its tores data internaly, but i may want a card to back up some games. I wasn't planning on downloading any games at all, would it still be prudent to pick one up? I heard that you cant actually play saved games off of them o_O

If i was gonna get one i was a bit confused on what type to get. I checked the wii faq and i guess a regular SD card of 2 gb will work or any SDHC up to 32 gigs. I was eyballing a 4gb kingston SDHC for about 10 bucks. Would that work fine and is that a decent price? I wasn't sure if i needed anything bigger

hell maybe a 2gb regular SD one would work ok? Right now im digging around online for an old gamecube controller and memory card so i can start looking for the fire emblem game i liked. I had also forgoten about tales of symphonia! i can FINALLY play that game! Im a big tales fan but never got the chance =D When i get serious about snaggin some games i'll probably take the sugestionst aht were spattered around in this thread and make a new thread about possible games i might like. I've already picked a few up:
Red steel 2 (considering getting 1 just for completeion but i hear it sucks)
No mroe heroes 2 (it was on sale for 13 bucks. i still need 1 too)
Muramasa: the demon blade
Okami
Madworld

These were bought mostly because they were all about 10 bucks with the sales going on, and i heard most were pretty good. =) I still havent opened it yet, im keeping an eye out for a better deal as xmas nears

except the DC was a pretty big comercial flop. I think the Wii was a pretty big comercial sucess wasn't it? I'm not sure of the numbers these days but i know it was beating the 360 and ps3 at some point.

Anyway im not gonna respond to the back and forth on consoles. I dont like to particularly hate on any one system. I just have my opinions on which i like and whilch i dont. Im a gamer and i play for GAMES, not for systems.

there is one that i wanted to respond to though:
@flamepanthers post about the ps1. I'm surprised you disliked FFT. I thought the story in that was really good, and different from most of the stuff out there at the time. I forgot to mention that the PS1 had some good fighting games too (tekken and SC being awesome back in the day) while the N64 had none that i can recall. I will agree a lot of its 3d games were terrible right along side the N64. But like i said, im a big rpg fan, and the PS1 had some very steller RPG's. Persona, Persona 2, Breath of fire III, IV, FFVII, Castlevania (as you mentioned), Lunar, Lunar II, Final fantasy tactics (one of my all time faves, awesome story), Tactics Ogre, xenogears, Saiyuki, Wild arms I and II, Valkyrie profile.. and of course my favorite RPG's of all time: Suikoden I and II. There are tons more but thats just what pops into my head. It had some decent action games too. I remember playing the crap out of twisted metal 2 back in the day. I do agree some dont hold up well over time though. I havent played MGS in ages I should try to load that up and see if it stands the test of time =) Anyway, thats the main reason i personally love the PS1 so much. For me the N64 just had a lot of terrible attempts at 3d games and the graphics really hurt it. That aside though, the absolute lack of RPG's is what really killed it for me. You have to admit it really had basically no rpgs to speak of. Out of the stuff you listed, Mario 64, Golden eye (god i remember the co op with that back in the day with tons of friends around the couch.. good times), zelda maybe, and starfox were the only ones i really enjoyed. Sin and punishment didn't even come stateside, but was awesome, and jet force gemeni was clunky and mediocre. Like i said the graphics really kill it for me too. I've tried hooking the N64 up with an s-video cable and notice no real improvement. Meanwhile the ps1 with an s-video cable looks MUCH sharper and the colors look way more vibrant. Actually out of ALL the consoles i have the N64 is the ONLY one thats not plugged into a tv since i almost never play it. Right now i have

PS3, 360, DC, PS1, 2xPS2's, 2xXbox's, 2xNES's, Genesis, SNES, all hooked up to the TVs and monitors in the bedroom. Ready to play at a buttons push. The N64 sits in the closet with my 2nd SNES, 360, gamegear, and other 2 Genesis.

Now that i think about it price also was a factor. I remember games cost a mint back in the day because of the cart format. It was great for loadtimes but I remember there were a few games i liked but never bought because of the price. Conker's bad fur day was one. that reminds me i need to hunt that down on ebay

anyway, just wanted to elaborate on my thoughts on the ps1 vs n64. I do wish the ps1 had more good 2d action games like the saturn did, but i think sony intentionally tried to push 3d games which kinda sucks =( A lot of those old 3d games look terrible today. But a good 2d game still looks good. Some 3d games like FFVII and others look really bad with s-video. But games like Suikoden or breath of fire look great on s-video

I think you failed to comprehend my point. I tried using the bold and italic functions so that you might see it, but... who knows.

Gimmicky controllers and a simple, but fun, pack-in game saved the day for Nintendo. If the Wii didn't catch on, the big "N" would have been in serious trouble in the home console business. The DS would keep them afloat, and that's about it.

As for SD cards, I have used Kingston and they are fine on the Wii. Some people say they fail easier. For the record, most of my SD cards are Sandisk.

I disagree. Zelda and Mario, as well as low manufacturing costs, would keep Nintendo profitable even in last place and with no third-party support. It nearly happened that way for the Gamecube.

See I disagree, I find Kingston to be one of the best.
