So Crazy Taxi has launched on 360, am I the only person excited about the game? It seems to have gotten slated in reviews stating archaic controls, poor quality graphics, dated mechanics, poor quality sound and not a lot of depth as it's major drawbacks.
What exactly did the reviewers expect with a port of a 10 year old game? The controls work well, if you can't handle the control system that's not the game's fault. It requires skill to play the game well, you have to practice for hours to get good at it. Defender's control system is confusing, does that mean the game sucks? No of course it doesn't. The sound I can understand, Crazy Taxi's soundtrack is iconic, but there's nothing stopping you putting those tracks on your 360 and using a custom playlist when playing the game. The graphics aren't pretty, it hasn't aged well, but I don't really care since the gameplay is still intact (unlike PSPs terrible Crazy Taxi: Fare Wars). Controls are just as tight (if not tighter thanks to the 360's superior analogue stick) as the Dreamcast original, in fact this one probably won't kill my thumb as much as the original did.
To me the game still plays just as well as it did 10 years ago, and better still I can play this one for as long as I want, whereas if I play my original on my DC it gets DRE after about an hour of play and I can no longer play it. I honestly can't see how you can go wrong with 800MSP. At least it's not the absolutely ridiculous 1200MSP they want to charge for Sonic Adventure...

Re: Crazy Taxi on 360
I love Crazy Taxi! One of my favorite driving games for the Dreamcast. Glad to hear the same insane tight controls made it to the 360. The mark that makes this game special. Imagine the potential if new tracks are offered as a DLC.
I managed to buy this one for my nephew's old XBox years ago, couldn't sneak Conker past my sister.
I would love to play DC Crazy Taxi with this, alas doesn't work with any of my adaptors.

Reminds me of this:

Quoted for truthiness!
I downloaded the Sonic Adventure 360 demo expecting it to be shit. I played it for a bit and after fiddling with the settings I found that you can control the camera with the right thumb stick (turn off auto-camera) and was thinking "Hey, this port of a port of a port might not be so bad, afterall.", then I got to the ramps and found out that this port is just as shitty as the others. Should've never gotten my hopes up.

I'll download the trial for the Crazy Taxi port. This one sounds better than the Sonic Adventure port.

Re: Crazy Taxi on 360
I think playing Crazy Taxi today on the 360 would be just as much fun as it was back in the day on the Dreamcast. I've not seen any reviews yet, but knocking it for being a decade old game is just lazy on the part of the writer.
Only reason I won't be spending 800 points on it is because I played it to death already. I've noticed that with a lot of re-releases on XBL, like Perfect Dark and Doom the nostalgia factor wears off pretty quickly when I remember how many hours I put into the games the first time around.

Re: Crazy Taxi on 360
Why didn't they just port 3 seeing as it has the same maps and characters after unlocking? While I might pay for the seminal first game, I wouldn't pay for the second or third games maps separately - They weren't good enough. And with the OST removal I'll more than likely wait for a sale on 1.
Love the game though, and completely agree that judging a game based on analogue controls (in their infancy when said game was developed) is a shit shot.

I am the only one who liked Fare Wars? I will probably pick this up on PSN when I get some cards for Christmas.

Re: Crazy Taxi on 360
Well, personally I never liked 2 or 3. The controls are just sloppy compared to the original. The addition of the crazy jump just killed it in my opinion. Pointless addition that adds nothing to the game really. If you were skilled you could do them on the original anyway.
The 360 port is the one to go for purely because the triggers are better, the buttons are better and you have custom soundtrack support.
One annoying thing I have found with the game is that you don't unlock achievements. My first run I got an S-Class licence, yet it didn't give me the A-class, B-class and C-class achievements at the same time... I've just got an Awesome licence on Original map and it didn't give me the S-Class licence.
Seems odd that you have to downgrade your skill just to get achievements.
