Sonic R and Sonic Jam
Are these must-haves for the Saturn? Is Sonic Jam the same as or better than the Sonic collection on XBOX?
I THINK, THEREFORE I GAME
Sonic Jam on Saturn is simply a compilation of Sonic, Sonic 2, Sonic 3 and Sonic and Knuckles. You can combine 2 and 3 with S&K in the same manner you could use the "lock on technology" of the real carts to play S&K characters in both 2 and 3. There is also included a number of old Sega commercials and snippets of Sonic cartoons if I remember correctly.
The collection is decent and has a few interesting extras and the games play the same as the original carts on Genesis but if you have the original games and a Genesis/MD, Sonic Jam is mostly redundant. Unless you can get it really cheap, the extras aren't worth the duplication and the cost.

I think Sonic Jam sucks compared to the compilations on later systems. The emulation isn't all that good. Hell, all the music is actually just poorly recorded wav files, if I remember right. It just never felt or sounded right to me. The little 3D overworld was neat, but that's about it. If you have a PS2, GC, or Xbox, get the set on those. They're not perfect, but better.

Sadly, no you couldn't. You could play Sonic 1 plugged into S&K, which gives you the "Get Blue Spheres!" game, but not Knuckles IN Sonic 1. That has only become recently possible with a ROM hack. The Apprentice wrote:You could also use Knuckles in Sonic 1, something you can't do with the original cartridges.

I interpreted Gaga's post as confirming your statement, not dismissing it, as he mentions playing Sonic 1 "plugged" into S&K, and you don't really PLUG anything in Jam.The Apprentice wrote:Oh, I guess I just heard a rumor. Blue Sphere is awesome though.
On the other hand he does say "only possible with a hack", so he may be saying that indeed you can't play Knuckles in Sonic 1 via Sonic Jam.
Unfortunately I don't have my Saturn with me right now, nor is it plugged anyway, so I can't test it myself to clear this up.
