Was it worth the wait for me? Yeah, because I wasn't waiting.

I'd never played a GT game before, growing up I'd always preferred racing games that encouraged reckless driving, smashing opponents or pedestrians and generally causing chaos, so I wasn't anticipating GT5 at all but ended up buying it on an impulse after reading how much content was included in the game a week ago, and I haven't been disappointed. The graphics may be uneven in places, but the gameplay is top notch and the learning curve is challenging, but never prohibitive in the early stages (I'm level 11 currently), even to someone like me who has never played a sim racer before. Suffice to say, I'm utterly addicted and it seems like I'll be getting a ton of play out of this game over the coming months.

Incidentally, here's a few photos I took;

Been playing all day today too, woo. I just imported all my PSP GT cars into the game, so it makes it more fun. My dad came over for Thanksgiving and we have been playing all day (trying to best each other in the time attack mode). I guess it's a great family bonding tool, heh.

I agree with the online aspects that Niode brought up, but as far as shadows of the cars, I think he is just being nitpicky at that point. But he and I have different ideas of what makes a game great. For a game like this, it's the realism of the cars driving mechanics, not shadows. I understand where Niode (the Anti-Sony) is coming from, but I am willing to ignore the shapes of the shadows in exchange for the extra time spent on making the differences noticeable when you make adjustments to anything from gear ratios to rear coilover damper. Those are the aspects of the game that I care about. Tuning.

Shouldn't this have been released with the game? I mean its not like they didn't have the time. I don't why someone started a crap fanboy argument, but anyways. After playing this game extensively today, I can easily say it fails in multiple areas. The collision sucks from top to bottom. When I crash a car in a 2010 video game I expect it to crash and not numbly bounce off the wall with little damage.

The soundtrack is a absolute joke, especially that stupid Top Gun guitar solo at the finish line. Than theres the graphical issues. cardboard trees, reflective effects such as chrome and gloss paint are severely lacking, frame dips and it just has general unpolished feel to it. It certainly doesn't scream that 6 year development feel, thats for sure.

The menus are confusing and game progression feels more like a chore instead of fun. And that patch thats coming sounds like it will address maybe 20% of the games issues. It feels like he paided attention to all the details that most people wouldn't notice and ignored lots of the details that most would notice.

I have to disagree with most of your points... For the most part the physics are spot on except the Damage effects.. I think patching a game atleast salvages any problems the game might face... I don't know man I think you are just nitpicking... The soundtrack is OK, but you can use your own playlist on your HDD to play during the races so I don't see what the problem is.. I think the game progression is fun... Tell me how is it different from any other GT? You must have not like the others either..

Well I'm glad you like the game man. I was just expecting much more than this is all. After playing it more today and really testing the collision in the game, I noticed one thing that really bothered me. When you hit another car or wall you never really hit them. Theres a small gap and no audible sign that you actually hit something. All you do is numbly bounce off the wall like the car and object is made of rubber. For a REAL driving simulator, the crashes sure looks and sounds fake to me. It just took the realism out of the game for me. And when you watch a race, aren't the cool crashes half the fun?
