Will Pal access. work on USA dreamcast?

Post by ptbnl »

I always see the PAL blue swirl dreamcast controllers available to buy. Will those work for My USA dreamcast (NTSC)? They are being sold for a reasonable price so i wouldnt mind picking up a couple.

I believe the standard controllers are region free, as are the VMUs.

All Dreamcast accessories are region free as far as I know. A friend has an ntsc controller he uses on a pal system and I have a jap vmu I use on a pal console and everything works fine. The only thing that might not work are guns.

I think the problem with the lightguns had just as much to do with the games as it did the accessories.

Only light guns don't work. You cannot use the Jap light gun with an NTSC or PAL version of say HoTD 2, but you can with a NTSC-J version of the game.

The reason import lightguns don't work on US dreamcasts is because of school shootings, Sega did not wish to sell a gun product. So they intentionally made thier gun incompaitible with US Dreamcasts, forcing gamers to buy 3rd party gear.
