Nomad --- New screen and better battery pack.
Re: Nomad --- New screen and better battery pack.
Ok good....Are the cells loose, or will they still be enclosed in something?
Re: Nomad --- New screen and better battery pack.
They are loose. Held together with a strip of metal. But they fit so snug in the AA pack they don't move.TheWes wrote:Ok good....Are the cells loose, or will they still be enclosed in something?

i bought this screen http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie ... K:MEWNX:IT
it has red black yellow and white wires
i assume red is power black ground and yellow video
what is white? also the wires are not soldered onto the board but there is a plug with all the wires into it should i remove the plug housing or just reuse the wires from the plug onto the nomad board?

Re-use the wires if you want to or follow the wires to the board and use those solder points.

NO.JaredWheeler wrote:will there be any quality differnce if i do that or solder new wires on?

Av2 goes to nothing. It's for a second video source.

Re: Nomad --- New screen and better battery pack.
Okay I tried this mod and failed a couple months ago and it's driving me crazy knowing my Nomad is just sitting there collecting dust.
Here's what happened, I soldered everything together and thought I did it correctly, but when I turned the system on, the LCD displayed nothing but a blank gray screen before going dead. When I plugged it into the TV using the a/v cable, however, It still worked.
I know the Nomad's motherboard is still working, does this mean I somehow fried the screens board?

Re: Nomad --- New screen and better battery pack.
Yes you could have fried the screens board. It is fairly easy to do. One misplaced wire or loose piece of solder and there it goes
You could try hooking it up to another input source and plugging it into wall power and see if it is actually fried or still working.

Re: Nomad --- New screen and better battery pack.
I got a Nomad with a burnt out screen and tried the mod. I've got a problem. The new screen only displays the right half of the picture with the left half remaining black. Also, the displayed half of the image is washed out and has horizontal lines through it (kind of like scan lines but much more noticeable).
Did I do something wrong or do I have a busted screen?

Mostly harmless
Re: Nomad --- New screen and better battery pack.
Lcd's have VERY sensitive ribbon cables. Try re-seating it in the connector. If that doesn't work then you accidentally bent it to much and probably tore it off the LCD slightly. That wont be repairable though.
