On my drive home, I got to thinking if a PS1 guncon or any light gun in particular can be modded to work on an snes?
I've never owned a superscope and I've seen that they are bulky and are battery hogs! Also, I'm pretty sure everyone out there has a super scope 6 game in their collection.
so to all you console hackers out there, is it possible?
I have seen an Nes Zapper knockoff on an FC twin(and other clones) but i doubt that it would work on supernes games!
would the wiring be correct to make it work, or are they totally incompatible? I'm thinking the guncon is most similar cause it has extra buttons on it.
It would be an interesting thing to try and do. what do you think?

Yeah, the Super Scope is pretty annoying. Mostly because a lot of the games don't have a target on the screen since you're suppose to look through the scope. But the thing is, looking through the scope is really annoying. If I ever read about a way to hack a regular old lightgun to work on the SNES in place of the Super Scope, I'll definitely be doing that.

I don't see why you wouldn't take apart both guns and transplant the innards and re wire a bit. It should theoretically work.

Yeah, that seems like an easier solution rather than trying to hack another gun to work with a SNES. I would do it myself, but I'm not sure if I wanna sacrifice my Super Scope, and I don't really feel like buying another one.
I didn't take it apart entirely, but when I took my Super Scope apart to get it working I noticed that there isn't much too it. I have this gun:

and I would think the innards of the Super Scope would fit inside it easily.
But like I was saying before, some games require that you look through the scope because there's no crosshair on the screen which could make some games more difficult than they were meant to be. I think it was Terminator 2 that I was having trouble playing without the scope (the scope is a pain in the ass to use).

A good point about the gun scope as mechanical aiming assistance.
I don't see how modding a PSX Guncon would improve anything, let alone if it could even be done. The Superscope also has that wireless sensor to get signals from the gun to the SNES. Its separate of the actual screen position sensing of the gun.
Probably the only thing from a Guncon that could be used is the gun sensor itself. The Supescope PCB from the SNES would have to be adapted to work with the PSX gun sensor as well as a connection to the SNES wireless receiver. A similar thought as when modding an arcade stick to a given console controller's proprietary PCB. However the gun sensor is not just digital switch connections. There are voltage requirements and the gun sensor reads have to match the PCB internal chip settings.
Battery Hog Solution
A simple AC adapter wired into the Superscope will solve the battery problem. AA-AAA-C-D batteries are all just under 1.5 volts each. Multipied by six batteries will give you a nine volt DC power brick. Run a long two strand wire from the power adapter to your Superscope battery terminals. Maybe even throw in a quick disconnect jack.
