Yeah I have the lettuce problem here.
Not every Italian knows how to make pizza, just like not every Greek person knows how to make a gyro, but you would expect a Greek person running a gyro shop would know how to make a gyro.

First, the guy overcooks the pita. I tell him to "just make mine warm".

Then there's the meat. Three or for strips aren't enough. You shouldn't be able to fully close the pita without a few strips of meat falling out, so I've got to tell the guy "double meat".

Then there's the lettuce. It doesn't belong on a gyro at all. Thankfully he does use sliced tomatoes and onions, because I've been to places that used chopped tomatoes and onions, and it's just not the same in taste or quality. That's one reason I never like Quizno's; they use cheap canned veggies.

I went to Piece last time I was in Chicago, and for thin crust Chicago pizza, it was off the charts good. Haven't had Lou Malnati's yet, but I'll try it my next trip back home.

Can't wait to have a decent gyro again too.
man, Piece is off the CHAIN. love that place.

Piece is soo good!

My buddy lives pretty close to Piece. I'm not a huge fan of thin crust pizza, but I really like Piece. Plus they've got some really good beer!

As far as my favorite pizza, I have to go with the Detroit style sicilian deep dish. Not as famous nationally(although Buddy's was named as one of the top 5 pizzas in the country) as NY or Chicago style pizza, but for me you can't beat that buttery crunchy cheese crust.

Let's get things back to being about Pizza.

Favorite Local Place (Atlanta):
Antico Pizza

This place is incredibly pretentious. However, their pizza really is incredible. They use imported ingredients, though their pies are not really Italian-style. This place is just a few blocks northwest of Georgia Tech. If you're in the area, I think it's worth a stop. Warning: Even though they have prices listed in both dollars and euros (I told you they were pretentious), they do not accept euros.

Favorite Regional Chain (Southeast, plus a few states):
Mellow Mushroom

When my wife and I decide to go out for pizza, it's usually to this place. They're great if you like a really chewy crust. My wife's favorite is the Philosopher's Pie: steak, portobello mushrooms, artichoke hearts, olives, provolone, mozarella, and feta. I usually prefer things less "busy," but it's still darn good!

I've only had Chicago-style pizza once. It was at a Chicago's Nancy's Pizza in Midtown Atlanta. I was not impressed, but I imagine that Nancy's isn't the best example of what the style has to offer.
