Its that time again - the Holidays!
Every holiday season I put in a lot of hours on my MAME cab.
So I am wondering what games (that are emulated well in MAME) do you consider "must play" for me this holiday season?
I like all genres of games, and switch it up almost every time I boot the cab so all games are welcome as long as they are emulated well!

What kind of controls do you have? Maybe rediscover the more obscure forgotten forms of game play. TWINSTICK, TRAKBALL and the SPINNER games. You can list the games out by the controller type in the Mame front end.
Some obscure controller games I like, common and maybe unknowns.
ROBOTRON
BLACK WIDOW
CRAZY CLIMBER
SPACE DUNGEON
VANGUARD
CENTIPEDE
REACTOR
TRON
TAC SCAN
OMEGA RACE

Re: Holiday Mame Play!
I have the HotRod joystick, it's similar to the x-arcade. So I don't know if I can play too many of those games. But Ill try. It could'nt hurt.CRTGAMER wrote:What kind of controls do you have? On another note, since we are on the subject of MAME - my arcade cab runs WinXP and when playing a fighting game (capcom mainly) I can't exit via keyboard commands (the joystick is mapped to mame's default keys) and then the keyboard is locked up and I have to reboot... any ideas?

I find myself playing Flicky often. Also try Pepper if you like pacman style games. Are you using a front end on your cab?

As for front ends I use Maximus Arcade and it's set to exit the game when pressing 1&2 Player start at the same time.
Re: Holiday Mame Play!
You could add a USB TRAKBALL to get a more authentic feel for the related games. Better then a mouse. I like the old Macally TRAKBALL. Also used as a Spinner until I decide to tackle a Spinner Mod using parts of a Ball Mouse. Does your HotRod have two sticks for two players? An easy configuration in the Mame TAB Menu to make the second stick function as a Twinstick.SpaceBooger wrote:I have the HotRod joystick, it's similar to the x-arcade. Lockup Issues
The ESC key should normally get you back to the Windows Mame Front End. On Mac Mame a roll of the Mouse to the top of the game screen brings up the Menu bar.
Sounds like both "keyboards fighting for space." Is the Hot Rod wired in through USB or does it have a dedicated encoder that goes through the PC PS2 plug? Also how is the PC keyboard attached? Two USB keyboards normally coexist fine. Maybe make sure one is USB and the other through the PC PS2 plug? I built an Arcade stick going the PC PS2 route for compatibility. To ensure the regular PC PS2 keyboard co-exists I have a Y-Key adaptor. For the Mac the controller gets a simple PC PS2 USB adaptor. Of note both "Keyboards" under the Mac coexist as USB connections.

That's a dual-stick right? That's perfect for Robotron. If you're not familiar with it, play it. It's brilliant.SpaceBooger wrote:

The joystick plugs into the PS2 slot for the keyboard, and the keyboard then plugs into the joystick.CRTGAMER wrote:Sounds like both "keyboards fighting for space." So you think if I use a USB keyboard this may fix the problem?
I always thought is was something in Window's settings that messed up after too many keys were pressed at once or in a short time... Ill try the USB keyboard.
