What's the point? It makes the thing not portable and for what? I slightly bigger, lit screen. Plus all the work, just get a gameboy player or use the adapter to plug it into a TV.

PSone screens aren't too hard to get on ebay if you look and patient, they are still around.
Point of the mod is only to use a larger screen than the stock small ones, ie a screen about 4x the size.
PSone screens are used a fair bit as the image quality is quite good and better than most 5" screens.
In saying that, the only sensible such mod would be to make a larger version of the original GBA style to house the larger screen and internal boards, that way, it would look far better and be considerably easier to use, and also have internal batteries. What the guy in the pic did was lazy.

Re: Ha, Cool GBA PSOne LCD screen Mod
the guy said part of it was to have a brighter screen too... but sounds like ur on to something about rebuilding a gba w/ the psone screen... not that i do anything of that caliber myself, but it seems as tho most handheld builds have stupid looking cases (no offense to the masters that make them) that never compare at all to the real deal. i know nintendo and sony and them have better access to plastic molding technology and what not but does every homemade handheld have to be in a tupperware container or that plastic stacking action ben heck does? is that really the limit of possibilities?bacteria wrote:PSone screens aren't too hard to get on ebay if you look and patient, they are still around.

Well, I have a GBA Transverter, however ruined the cable; when I get time (!) i'll try to rewire it and repair it. The GBA Converter is quite crap due to the way it clips onto the back of the ribbon connector and not into it. GBA looks bad on composite, needs RGB. If I can fix it, I probably will be interested in making a larger GBA in vacuum forming, for fun. Project very much on back burner though, my Alpha Omega will take a good couple of years to finish after all.
