So how do I clean out a console?

I've got some consoles to clean out... NES & SNES right now, and probably there's another thread about this or a guide somewhere. So yeah.. how do I wanna do this?

Is it safe to assume you don't have a gamebit? If you don't the size you need is 4.5 mm (I think...). It's a bit you put on a screwdriver. You'll need one to take them apart.

actually I should rephrase -- I'm trying to clean out a NES and SNES to confirm they WORK. I'm not as concerned about making them look pretty until after that.

Oh, well that's different. And not nearly as exciting as my idea.

Easiest way to do it is to unscrew the top from the base (phillips heads, I think). Then use compressed air to blow anything free from the innards and rubbing alcohol (which you don't have) on the connectors.

If you have any low grade glass cleaners (they are primarily alcohol) that might work in a pinch. Vodka is also effective.
