I don't have any specific information on these scanners, no. But it really is beside the point. Even if we allow for the sake of argument that the scanners are harmless, it still constitutes an invasive search. Such a search cannot be justified on the grounds of safety, as air travel is already the safest form of travel. In fact, by encouraging people to drive instead of fly, the TSA is almost certainly costing American lives.
Those of you who are advocating this, think carefully on this point. Why are they really doing this? It can't possibly be to save lives, as I've already outlined. There must be some other motive.
New airport scanners.

Again, I'm inclined to agree...but what does and doesn't count as invasive still needs to be legally defined in the case of these scanners. The best thing that could happen would be for a court to order a cease and desist on these machines until the legality can be sorted out.Hatta wrote:I don't have any specific information on these scanners, no. I don't know that conspiracy theories are going to get us anywhere. About the only "suspicious" part of this whole thing is that former DHS Chertoff made a ton of $ selling these scanners to the TSA.Those of you who are advocating this, think carefully on this point. I do think that the TSA thinks they are saving lives with them, I just think they are probably wrong. I don't really think they want to see our junk or expose us to rads or anything else.
Re: New airport scanners.
I think any reasonable person can agree that nudity is pretty invasive. It's justifiable, if there are real dangers to be avoided, but that's just not the case.dsheinem wrote: Again, I'm inclined to agree...but what does and doesn't count as invasive still needs to be legally defined in the case of these scanners.
Yes, that's pretty much it. The TSA is a subsidy for the prison-industrial complex.I don't know that conspiracy theories are going to get us anywhere. About the only "suspicious" part of this whole thing is that former DHS Chertoff made a ton of $ selling these scanners to the TSA.

I think its do whatever possible to prevent another 9/11. The idea that TSA agents doing a purposeful study of repeated low dose radiation exposure seems pretty far-fetched. The scan doesn't have a data base of names correlated to each individual. There is no intent to place harmful radiation on passengers. A determination of what is the safe limits are questionable though. Any exposure is not good for you, multiplied over a lifetime of travels through the Airport and Dental Lab.Hatta wrote:Those of you who are advocating this, think carefully on this point. A continual debate over new technology and conspiracy theories. Look at Agent Orange in Vietnam, still not a positive answer on that one.

Thomas Edison even knew of Xray dangers way before that shoe Xray came to market.

Radiation experiments has been done before to the people, in particular to the Military in various countries. An ignorance at the time over how much is too much exposure.

Wow, I was not suggesting anything of the sort. That's even crazier than thinking the TSA exists to keep us safe. The idea that TSA agents doing a purposeful study of repeated low dose radiation exposure seems pretty far-fetched
What I am suggesting is that the TSA exists to funnel money to well connected businesses. This is total standard practice for corruption in Washington these days.

Re: New airport scanners.
Even with nothing that could obviously be used as a weapon or any liquid or plastic explosive or anything that could be used to enhance one's threatening nature, if a number of people are determined to overpower the flight crew on a plane and crash it into a building I'm sure they'd be able to. What are we going to do, limit flights that use US airports to no more than 2 'brown' people per flight? No flying if you're a male with a big 'Muslim style' full beard because you just might be a terrorist?CRTGAMER wrote:I think its do whatever possible to prevent another 9/11.
Not picking on you specifically CRT.

Just like how vaccinations exist so that the drug companies can make money off us?Hatta wrote:What I am suggesting is that the TSA exists to funnel money to well connected businesses. This is total standard practice for corruption in Washington these days.

THIS, I believe is true. Taking advantage of the security situation and overcharging the Government. A Halliburton bite.Hatta wrote:What I am suggesting is that the TSA exists to funnel money to well connected businesses. This is total standard practice for corruption in Washington these days.

Agree there has to be a limit. Maybe the Terrorists winning through loss of some of our freedoms?Hobie-wan wrote:Even with nothing that could obviously be used as a weapon or any liquid or plastic explosive or anything that could be used to enhance one's threatening nature, if a number of people are determined to overpower the flight crew on a plane and crash it into a building I'm sure they'd be able to. Funny you brought up vaccinations. Remember the HN1 scare and not enough vaccinations at first. There is so much now through Government waste. A constant barrage of Government sponsored commercials (more waste) pleading everone to get the bird virus shot.

Re: New airport scanners.
That's the way it seems to me. They've got people running around scared, so what they're doing is effective and they'll keep doing it. When a bully picks on someone and gets a reaction, they keep on doing it. And yes I realize that sometimes the US is the bully. But not meaning to get into that right now. Just speaking on the hoops we've let ourselves be corralled into with the airport farce.CRTGAMER wrote:Agree there has to be a limit.
