Shipping from Japan to US over 16 ounces BANNED

Post by Hobie-wan »

Um, what the flying fuck. :x :x :x

So right now, people in Japan cannot send any packages over 16 ounces to the US at the post office because some fuckwit in charge has decided to be a chickenshit and let the terrorists win and, you know, terrorize them.

http://www.post.japanpost.jp/int/inform ... ry_en.html *bottom of the chart*

So at least for now, no buddy buddy members in Japan sending more than a game or two this way. Rising stuff is probably screwed for their sale too.

Yeah it sucks balls. I found out about it on the J-post website over the weekend. It is such a big hit in the nuts to people like me trying to send stuff to people back in the US.

So we're stuck with shipping by sea only until the Japanese Post Office snaps out of their insanity. So no EMS/SAL 1-2 week shipping. Now you'll be stuck with 1-2 month sea freight which manhandles your boxes hardcore. Son of a b-!

Yeah we just found out about this today at Rising Stuff. Needless to say we are really annoyed. Most of the stuff we are going to be able to put into multiple packages which, while manageable is gonna raise shipping costs. Ugh, this is going to ruin sales.

I'm glad I go back to America on the 15th next month. I can probably just bring all the heavy stuff with me and ship it stateside.

I have no idea how this is going to affect the import market. Probably gonna result in more domestic dealers...

This is temporary I'm assuming, right?

Because it's just a recipe for disaster with Japan still being in/just now recovering from a recession and all.

Indefinite. But as things are going right now it could be stuck as a rule for months or even years. Either way, it's a horrible decision and it was unnecessary. The US hasn't gone to such drastic measures for outbound mail, I honestly don't understand why Japan decided this was a good idea.

Hell, this isn't the first boneheaded idea the J-post has had lately. They banned the shipping of electronic devices with batteries installed too. Although I think thats an international thing now which is still absolute bullshit.

I have sent so many things by sea but I have never had a problem, knock on wood, did something happen to you before? Maybe because I over-compensate on the packing.

Boxes I used successfully for air mail didn't make it so well in sea freight. It may just be luck of the draw on that but its happened to me a few years back when I sent stuff ahead of me when I finished my year studying abroad too.

If I do ship by sea again I will buy heavy duty boxes and be extra, extra careful.

But the thing is we don't even have a choice anymore. It's pretty dumb if you ask me. :( At least we can still receive large packages from the US...for now.

Does this ban effect Canada as well? In other words, will Japanese stuff over 16 ounces still be able to be sent to Canada via EMS?

According to the spreadsheet linked in the original post, Canada isn't even mentioned. So I think we can safely assume this rule only applies to the USA and places like Guam.
