I figured as much. Just like to know what I'm getting myself into before I take apart a not so easily replacable system.

Hopefully I'll have time to take a look tomorrow. Thanks for the help so far guys.

If you don't feel sure about opening up the console, you can just use the AV terminal for video alone and use the line out for sound. It's meant to be connected to a stereo receiver. Assuming you have AV cables, you can buy a y-adapter (3.5mm phono to dual rca) and hook the sound from the line out to your sound inputs on your TV. The audio level of the line out port doesn't need adjusting since it's the same output as the console. Still, it's worth trying to fix the AV terminal. The solution I mentioned is something to tide you over until you get everything up and running.

If you do not have AV cables and you have a sound system, then you can just use that. Otherwise, if you only have RF, you'll have to open that bad boy up.
What a maneuver!

I had a bit of spare time today so I took a look inside and promptly closed it back up. The solder I could see looked like it was all solid and as soon as I realized I would have to desolder the boards from each other in order to just give it a "check up" I decided my skills werent up to it.

I do have a Stereo Receiver hooked up in the room so I'll be giving the Line Out a try as you suggested. If I can get the sound working that way I'll be a happy camper!

Heh yeah. Once I got a peek inside I decided that I'd leave the CDX alone since it worked fine and wasn't too dirty overall. Normally I disassemble almost every system I get and clean it out, but I just passed on the CDX.

I've heard of others doing the same and now completely understand why. That thing is freakin compact! I let out a big sigh of relief after putting it back together. I'm still quite new at tinkering around with the internals of things like this, and this was a bit beyond my current capabilities.
