while I'm not the biggest call of duty fan anymore, a lot of my friends still play it.
I've noticed that it is less about skill now and more about just random luck and getting on a hot streak. Sure, you have to have the skill to take advantage of the hot streak, but still. It seems more like gambling than gaming. Hear me out.
You keep playing multiplayer over and over and over. Shot in the back. Killed by a killstreak. Knifed just a second too soon. Etc etc. Until, after breaking even or doing a little better than normal you just get hot and kill 10 in a row. It is such a rush when you do, that you just keep playing. Trying for it again.
So... i've been playing since COD2. And to be honest- playing like everyone else just bores me now. I get that the most efficient way to kill everyone is throw on the sub machine gun or assault rifle and try to cover as much ground as possible to bump into as many people as possible and get hot with the right killstreaks. But... you know what? not fun anymore. When MW2 dropped i realized.... there is a better way to play. And that is by being the fucking wild card.
I'm the guy in MW2 that trapped 3 people on the stairs with the riot shield and slowly bumped them all to death. Now i'm the guy with the flame thrower running around like a madman. I don't do nearly as well as i used to, or when i switch over to actual guns.... but man.... that shit is fun. The best part about it is that you are that guy- literally no one else plays like I do. Sometimes it works out really well becuase people just don't expect it. Some other times.... not so much. Totally worth it though.
You guys playing?
anyone playing black ops?
Re: anyone playing black ops?
I've just been playing Single player for now and the scripted "AI" (i put inverted commas because it's non existant) is just aweful. You can feel those "trip wires"... When you reach a certain point in the level the enemies spawn. Reach another point and they stop coming. This is the same technology used on the first Call of Duty years ago and it's pissing me off.
Another thing is how stupid your teammates are... They have a set destination with waypoints. If you're in they're way well... they'll move you out of their way even if you are trying to cover from fire...
I tried the training camp and multiplayer looks better than MW2 so i'm looking forward to that.

Multiplayer is fun. I like how you buy your weapons and such with the points you earn from each match. Being able to take one person with you online is definitely a step in the right direction.
I've been playing dead ops arcade in the zombies submenu and that's pretty cool too.

The game is definitely way more balanced than MW2. You never really feel shafted by another player's ridiculous loadout. None of that commando/marathon shenanigans or weird one man army quirks. However you will be shafted by the spawning system. Which I assume will get patched eventually. I know people complain all the time with call of duty. This perk should be this, this gun should be weaker/stronger.. blah blah blah. But yeah- the spawning is pretty bad. Which has been kind of half the reason why i'm playing like how i'm playing. Because honestly it just doesn't matter. You either get nice spawns and get hot or not at all. Taking it seriously would only be frustrating.
check out the video about spawning.
Re: anyone playing black ops?
This game is insulting on so many levels. There's nothing 'black' about the campaign either, as for MP BF2 is still king.

I'm liking the multi and campagin a lot better than MW2. I've noticed I dont get killed by killstreaks nearly as often, and though the spawning is not great, it isnt nearly as bad as MW2.
Weapon balance is also vastly improved, along with the leveling system.
The zombies mode is a lot of fun when you have a good team.

First COD games i've liked in a long time. The campaign whilst linear was definatly entertaining, Zombies is eating up all my time, and the multiplayer whilst still the same "i've been playing longer therefore i do better" formula seems a little more balanced.
But at the end of the day im a huge Halo fan so that is my current gen FPS.

I'm playing it for a bit. The single player so far is interesting and exceeded with a entertaining opening. (only about 2 or 3 missions so far). The multiplayer is also pretty fun. You actually have to earn killstreaks which is interesting and the fact that you control the mini-gun and stuff in the higher killstreaks is also very fun.
