SEGA CDX Audio Problems
Recently my CDX has been giving out extremely low volume when I'm playing it (both SEGA CD and Genesis games). Normally the volume on the TV can be set to around 10 and its at a comfortable level, but with the CDX I suddenly have to crank it up to 50+ to hear it and that causes some feedback along with the sound.
Sometime it sounds perfect and crystal clear, but other times its nearly silent. Its happening more frequently recently. Any ideas to remedy this?

Are you THE crabmaster2000 from RFG?
On topic: Is it hooked up through AV, the line out jack, or the headphone jack?

Maybe some corrosion in the AV port or it's been wrenched and has a broken solder joint that's loose?

No that must be the other Crabmaster2000 that hangs around these kind of sites :p.arnold_the_bartender wrote:Are you THE crabmaster2000 from RFG?![]()

I'm just using an RF Adaptor for picture and sound. I'll try a different method and see if I get different results.

Re: SEGA CDX Audio Problems
I've seen your same game room pics here as on RFG.
If you don't have access to AV cables for video, just try listening through the headphone port (not line out if you want to adjust the volume, though you can still see if it keeps at a steady level) with a pair of headphones and see what's up. If they are working fine, then it's probably just something up with the AV terminal.

Awesome, thanks for the help. I'll test it out when I get home and post the results.arnold_the_bartender wrote:I've seen your same game room pics here as on RFG.![]()

Headphone jack works perfectly. Also gave the RF Hookup a listen through and amp and speaker and got the same results as the TV so its definitely the system. Unfortunately I dont have anything to test the Line Out jack with.
Am I cursed to always play my CDX with headphones or does this sound like something that can be fixed.

Re: SEGA CDX Audio Problems
If it's a busted solder joint or bad cap, it can be fixed. CDX are just a major pain to get to the guts. I opened up the one I got for cleaning like I do every system I get and just closed it right back up.

Well I just recently learned how to solder and desolder so maybe I'll take a peek inside. Know of any websites that have labelled pics of the CDX internals so I know what to look for?

I do not. Looking for a busted solder joint at the AV plug should be easy enough if you can get to it.
