XBLA Fighters too hard

Post by gennss »

I never had any problems with other home versions, but Super Sf2 HD and Marvel vs capcom 2 on xbla are kicking my rear. I remember MVC2 being easier on dreamcast...

You know, I thought about this myself - going through the various SNK titles XBLA has on tap. I used to kick all sorts of ass on Samurai Shodown 2 and Street Fighter II, but when I went cheevo hunting in what I thought was familiar territory, it quickly turned into a digital lesson of hard knocks.

I've blamed it on everything - from the inferior D-pad, (the all too familiar scapegoat of any XBox fighting game,) to frames of animation lost in translation, to even possible faulty hit detection.

Or, maybe it's just the adjustment of going back to play a game again for the first time in awhile, and being out of sync with a foreign controller..

This thread actually made me go back to playing Street fighter II: Hyper Fighting on XBLA last night..

I seriously never had a more difficult time getting through the game ON EASY without losing...

I've been playing mostly Super Street Fighter 4 lately. After seeing this thread, I decided to have a go at easy mode in Super Street Fighter II Turbo: HD Remix.

I started with Ryu, won the first couple matches, then lost a couple versus Blanka. I decided to switch to Sagat. I didn't lose a match with Sagat, but most matches were 2-1, and most rounds were close. It took me about a half hour to beat it. This is much different from how I remember easy mode going in SSF4, where you can usually just kick over and over to win.

SSF4 also has a more forgiving input system, right? It seemed more difficult to do special moves in HD Remix.

My remark isn't about playing fighters on XBLA, but I do have a hard time in Marvel vs. Capcom 2 getting combos (mostly the super moves) to work. I'll press QCF+PP and Marvel vs. Capcom 2 will only recognize the first punch or not register either punch. This problem has gotten much worse in the PS3 version and has cost me several online matches.

I hate the 360 pad with a passion when it comes to fighters, why the arcade sticks are so expensive is beyond me.

The trouble is that a lot of these games come with arcade difficulty, which was obviously designed to eat through kids money - when SFII was ported to the SNES and MegaDrive, it was MUCH easier on the lower settings than the arcade's lowest settings and it seems that when bringing these games to modern consoles, the difficulty hasn't been altered either.

I haven't had the pleasure of playing SFIV in the arcade, but I imagine the CPU difficulty is above the default on consoles.
