Front Mission 5 really beats the other srpg
Front Mission 5 really beats the other srpg
It's just unfortunate that this game never saw a state release just because the fanbase wasn't really big enough for Square Enix. I am actually debating right now if I should get Front Mission Evolved. Has anyone played the latest entry?
Re: Front Mission 5 really beats the other srpg
The most recent one I played was FM4 and I was kinda disappointed. It just felt like a step backwards from Front Mission 3. How does FM5 compare?
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

From what I've heard, Front Mission Evolved was rather anemic. Haven't played myself so I can't confirm this, but I haven't seen anything good.

@ Flake
I felt Front Mission 5 was the kind srpg we're supposed to get from the beginning, so it is one step above FM4. The link system is still there and it feels much more realistic and flexible. I seriously enjoy to check mate my enemies in this game at least.

I'm sure that if you like Front Mission you're aware of this, but for those that aren't - you can now play Front Mission 5 with a complete English translation patch available from http://www.frontmission.info/. It's supposed to be the most polished and 'complete' version of FM produced so far.

Front Mission3 is still one of my favorite strategy games of all time

How does this work? Do you have to patch an ISO and play it on a PS2 emulator?
I would like to try this game. I thought Front Mission IV was pretty cool. The SNES Front Mission games kicked my ass though. They were so hard that I couldn't enjoy them. I was getting pummelled in the first couple of battles before even knowing what to do.

I never got a chance to play Front Mission 5 because it never got brought over here which really disappointed me because I'm a big fan of the series.
I wasn't aware of the English patch. I'll need to try it sometime. Thanks.

You patch the ISO and then either play it on an emulator or a chipped/swap capable PS2.

The Front Mission has been considered a "cult" game for most fans, and if you did read the main article on Hardcore Gaming 101, they agree FM5 is to be the best. I did play with the demo for FM3, and beat it on FM1 for DS.
I don't know if SquareEnix is ever going to follow up the series, since Evolved didn't sell too well. But, IMO, they should NOT file a C&D to any fan translation to other FM games that haven't been released outside Japan, unless SE does have plans to release the remaining games via PSN, Xbox Live, or any format with proper English translation.
