My collection of games - 18/12/10 Update

Post by Ducky »

To be honest, guys, I'm almost embarrased to present my collection here because it isn't nearly retro enough to meet the theme of the site. There are a couple of reasons for that. As you'll see further on, I'm rather fond of collector's editions, and because I'm mortified of them selling out and getting listed up on eBay for obscene prices, they take priority of what little money I have. So, I have a tough enough time to keep up with them as it is. The other issue is that when I do end up with surplus money to go to retro games, I go out of my way to buy complete and boxed games which is bloody expensive! :D These factors both contribute as to why you'll see so few retro games on here, but I hope you enjoy anyway!

Here it is:

Image

Up the top is the Pandora's Box from the GOW Ultimate Trilogy Edition, the Pip-Boy bobblehead, a N64 cartridge rack (yes, that is two games you see there...) and a Scribblenauts hat, amongst other things! Above this photo is a shelf with a daunting amount of boxes which I don't really know what to do with but I can't bring myself to throw away. Moving on...

Image

These are my PAL Dreamcast games and the token Saturn game. I prefer the big PAL cases as opposed to the thin NTSC cases, but since the PAL cases are difficult to replace I'm eventually going to replace them with NTSC equivalents anyway for extra space and because the cases are easier to replace.

Image

My portable Nintendo games. Yeah, I'll admit it! For a significant time, my GameBoy was essentially a Pokemon machine. While I broke that trend with the DS, I used to have an R4. I intend to remedy this by buying the games that I enjoyed, but I'm also without a DS at the moment.

Image

These are my PSP games. I haven't had a PSP for very long so this is what I have so far. Peace Walker is sealed for collectible reasons. I will open Birth By Sleep once I finish the rest in the series.

Image

My PS2 games. Currently buying NTSC PS2 games for their awesome spines. Persona 3 Special Edition is sealed.

Image

I love the Gamecube! I got my Japanese games when I went to Osaka in 2008 and I love their design! I am currently in the process of replacing my PAL Gamecube games for NTSC versions. The three PAL games I'll be keeping are Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil and Resident Evil 4 (for their awesome boxart).

Image

My Xbox 360 Collector's Editions.

Image

My regular Xbox 360 games. In Asian and Australasian regions, Lost Odyssey came in a larger case so I made sure to pick up a local copy.

Image

My Wii games. I am so pleased to own  the NMH2 Hopper's Edition, I ordered it on Amazon and had a friend of mine forward it to me. Like a few people, I rushed out and got a copy of the Metroid Prime Trilogy when I heard it was out of print. I love the artwork on the Okami slipcase too, that was exclusive to the UK. The HOTD Overkill Bang Bang box was exclusive to Australasia, I believe.

Image

PS3 games. Obviously, Vanquish's Lenticular case hasn't shown up properly. Not shown, the Pandora's Box.

Image

My few PC games(those which aren't Steam downloads  ;D). I've sworn to never buy a Digital Download again. So barren! And I regret ever letting go of Diablo II.  :-[

Anyhoo, that's my collection. Hope you liked it, tell me what you think!

EDIT:

Figured I'd add in what I've recently bought here:

Image

I'm so relieved to finally own the Ratchet & Clank: A Crack in Time Collector's Edition. This was the fourth time I've tried to import it, but damn GAME kept shipping it in a jiffy bag so the cardboard casing would get all damaged. D: Super happy to have it now.

As for what's in that box to the left?

Image

...The Fan Edition! But how depressing. It didn't even come in it's own box, so I'm feeling really shafted right about now. It's more like the "Limited plus a couple of extra merch items we had lying about Edition", so I'm thinking of ebaying it.

Also, here is my shelf accommodating the new items:

Image

And here are the boxes that litter the shelf directly above:

Image

Image

...Why yes, that is a Japanese 40GB Ceramic White Playstation 3's box. ;D

oh man why did I have to see that Sega Saturn game of Policenauts!
now that tune of 'tu tu tu tu-tu-tu' will be in my head all day long. :P :D

anyway, very nice collection and I have to say I'm exactly the same way with those special/limited/directors cut etc etc editions. I try to buy the standard version of the game but once my eye catches the fancier packaging or extra content of the spec eds, all resistance crumbles.

Hey, thanks for the comments, guys! I'm really flattered.

Yeah, you're too right. I actually switch up my game shelf all the time for my own amusement, and before I had about half my collection segregated on the top two shelves of the games that I intend to sell and replace. That half largely consists of my Dreamcast, some of my PS2, Gamecube and some of my Xbox 360 games. Mostly the ones that are in shabby condition (I didn't care about the condition of the preowned games that I picked up until recently) and most of my NZ bought games. I only ever import now because I can't stand our rating label and because they rob you with the prices here.

Well, to be honest, I can barely afford it myself. It takes a lot of vigorous planning and living in borderline poverty, haha! I'm often saving months in advance to make sure I have a preorder down. But it's all worth it.

I've seen a lot of gaming room threads, yours included. You look to have a lot of games, I'd love to see them! Your collection looks grand!

Haha, yep! Policenauts is fantastic, and that Saturn version is really nice, don't you think? Don't you have a copy? Speaking of your collection, it had me absolutely floored when I saw it! ESPECIALLY your boxed Nintendo 64 games and Saturn games. Plus, you have Snatcher (envy +1)!

Yeah, I absolutely love Limited Editions, but it's getting dangerous what with every other game having one now-a-days. Publishers know that gamers will pony up the extra cash for them. It's getting to the point that if there's a game that I even just remotely want, and I find out it's getting a Limited Edition, my need for it kicks up to eleven! :(

Remember the days when Limited Editions used to be for special games that actually deserved them? Aye yai yai...

I have the exact same problem. And it's not a problem when buying Mega Drive games, but try finding mint condition Gameboy games.

Anyway great collection man. You have some of the best games of all time there.

Don't be. A) Almost all of your games are from key franchises that have been around forever. That's good stuff. B) Wait ten years. It'll all be retro.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?
