RPG gameplay hrs

Post by pepharytheworm »

As you know most rpgs take a lot of commitment to complete, so I wanted to make a list of the game length of rpg games so others can see how many hours they may have to commit to the game. As you know being an adult sometimes its hard to spare a lot of time.

I will go through some of my memory cards and games to see the time it took me to beat some and list time completed. Give me the times you guys also took to beat any rpg and I will make an average time to beat. Help me make this list as complete as possible.

Note: I will also list games that aren't really rpgs but are generally lumped with rpgs like the Zelda series and similiar clones. Please no debates on what is or what isn't an rpg we have another thread for that. Thanks

I always like to find people that love to play RPG's. I've played quite a few in my life. The longest one I've played is Dragon Warrior VII where it took over 80 hours to complete. I had to go through it twice because the first time I was 75 hours into it and my memory card corrupted. I'm still looking for a game that takes 100 hours or more doing basically the main quest. I don't think I've had any other games go past 50.

If you want to save some time you can find out how long it should take to complete on http://www.rpgamer.com. The completion times are found on the reviews.

Being the guy who likes to suck a game for all its worth, it takes me a little longer to complete them.

Dragon Quest VIII - 132 hours

Final Fantasy X - 81 hours

Persona 3 - 83 hours

Thats all I can remember off the top of my head. More to come as soon as I look at my saves.

I must have missed a lot because I was disappointed that game took me only 40 hours to complete if I remember correctly since it was nearly 5 years ago. I was hoping for 70+ like Dragon Warrior VII. Most games I have played average between 25 - 40 hours.

Persona 3 & 4 both took me about 100 hours with the main quest. And none of it feels like filler, which is nice.

This is a great idea, pephary! I really hope this list grows to epic proportions, because time limitations are a big factor when choosing which game I play. No time for that 80 hour stuff on my end. Life's too short, and there are so many games.

Off the top of my head:

FFVI - 35 hrs
FFVII - 30 hrs
Super Mario RPG - 20 hrs

These are estimates of recent replays. No real sidequest stuff except for FFVI.

a lot of this will depend on side quests and shit.

for example, the above post said 30 hrs to beat FFVII. but if you want to take down both weapons you are probably looking at 80 hrs.

and that is the only RPG i have beaten, so my job here is done.
if you took a shit, please put it back

Well I am going to do an average plus everyone could also note if a big part of the time spent was on sidequest. I am looking more for an estimate than an exact time.

I spent many hours collecting the rarest monsters and battling them to get the rarest items to throw in the alchemy pot. Then there was the Dragovian Sanctuary.

Over how long are you guys putting in all these hours. At best I finish 30-40 hour games in 2-3 weeks, but it's normally more like 3 months  . I doubt I could put 100 hours into a game in less than a year.
