xbox 360 some xbox360 features are missing or corrupt?

Hopefully someone can help with this. I have 2 xbox360's. My son has been playing on one daily, and its been recently updated. The other was not in use till yesterday when I purchased another wireless network adapter. I wanted to use this second one for in bedroom streaming netflix. It had been working fine before I unhooked it about a month ago. Now when I hook it I cant sign into xbox live. It asks to do an update, which I agree to. It starts to update, the green bar starts to download, then it regresses and stops. Says I need to restart the console, then it says some "xbox360 features are missing or corrupt" and sometimes give me this code. 8b05008-2a163c39-88e4fcf1 Anyone?

I had this problem once.

Unplugg the hard drive.
Turn it on (offline).
Turn it off
Plug in hard drive
Turn on (offline)
Go to system settings and revert to factory defaults
Restart the console and sign in online

Seems long and boring but it worked for me.
