I've been wanting to get into the Wonderboy series but it is indeed so very confusing.

Okay, so I just found out that if you lose to a boss in AI2 for NES, he moves across the island and you have to go through more levels to get back to it. Including worlds you already beat.

Also I think that the level structure is non-linear, as my path to the boss keeps changing every time I play.

If you're playing the NES one, there's a secret item that lets you continue.

In wonder boy, you just get infinite continues, which is the nicer design decision imo :p

i played this last night on my game gear.

i am not really a fan of portable games, but being able to play this in my bed, with the lights off, was definitely enjoyable. my game gear's sound has completely gone to shit and the only thing coming from the speakers are crackling sounds, which can be a bit annoying. the headphone jack works great though, so i really do need to find my headphones.

also, the game seems like it was made for speed running. it just feels natural to want to run fast.

anyways, i ended up getting to the 4th level before turning it off and hitting the hay.
if you took a shit, please put it back

spent a long time playing Adventure Island (GB) today, which is based on Adventure Island II (NES). Anyway, I can make it up to the 7th island, Dinosaur Island which appears to be the last. However, it gets really frustrating due to a lot of levels that offer no eggs at all. So if you die once you need to get through without any hammers. This slows things waaay down, which means more often than not you just die from running out the clock. :?

i just happen to have the instruction manual for revenge of drancon, and i just happened to feel like reading it. turns out you are supposed to pick up a doll in every area in order to reach the final round, which was something i didn't know. in most areas, you can't miss the doll, and in some you have to 'find' it, which really isn't too hard.

i like the game, but it is pretty damn repetitive. every level has four or so areas and every level is almost identical in terms of layout. i can only play for so long before i just get bored with it. tonight i got to level 5 or 6 i think, which was the "clouds" level. also, the game has unlimited continues, which is something i like and don't like.

From experience, when I got to the later worlds, it was very much something I did like. They took quite a few lives from me...

Also, some of those dolls are a bit nasty to find. I think I missed only two or three the whole game, but later I discovered that one of the ones I missed appeared if you tripped over a specific rock in the level. Thats just mean in a game where you're constantly taught to avoid everything because it will kill you.

I saw something about that in a review for AI2, but the item didn't come until the third world.
