PS1 Cheat Device on PS2?

Post by JordanPlayer »

Recently I've been playing quite a few PS1 games on my PS2; I have an AR Max for the Playstation 2 but that doesn't work for the PS1 games. I read a ton of stuff online but it wasn't quite clear whether or not there was a cheat device for PS1 that works on slim PS2 consoles. Was wondering if anyone has gone through this issue and could give me a clear answer.

I have a PS2 Slim 70012 and am trying to find a PS1 cheat device so I can use these cheats when I play PS1 games on my PS2 console.

I'm pretty sure my late model PS1 action replay works on PS2. It was released around 2002 or so.

I don't know if any of them do work. I've never been able to get a gameshark/action replay to work on a PS2 though :(

I always thought the PS1 disc based Game Sharks/Action Replays would work on the PS2. I use an Import cheat cart version with my PSX. Now where is that stupid dongle for the Gameshark disc?

I know there is a Gameshark that has a dongle which attaches to the back of a PS2, this version doesn't work with slim because they removed that port (or something along those lines).

The Gameshark dongle is a PS1 memory card.

Oh, I know there is also a Gameshark dongle or something that plugs into the Fat PS2 parallel port.

That would be the Gameshark cartridge version.

Is this the PS1 Gameshark or PS1 Action Replay disc version without the Dongle? A personal confirmation?

Okay, I found the "Dongle", memory card for the CD version. For some reason the Gameshark Memory card Dongle doesn't seem to fit snug like a regular PS1 memory card in the PS2. Dongle fits fine in a regular PS1 memory slot. No way to tell if the disc based Gameshark is 100% working in the PS2. The disc will load to the opening video demo before a "No Memory Card Dongle Lockup" occurs.

The larger carts are an actually Gameshark Pro cart version and "Gameshark" Import versions for the older PSX Parallel Port. The springs allow a "Mod Chip" bypass routine, if no internal Mod Chip. Game Hunter is my favorite, for the quick Memory Card utilities and game Video Player functions. No, none for sale, just info.

So no PS1 cheats on the PS2 from my end. Maybe an PS1 Import boot loader if it has Action replay codes?

I've heard that the Gameshark Lite seems to be the best bet but I'm wary of paying for something that could turn out to be a dud since it is still sketchy.
