Re: Xbox Slim Reliability?
Ive been installing my games to the hard drive for years on my Old 360 and it cut down on heat and noise, although the newer 360 cools a little better. You're right, all the disc is for is for booting the game. Unless, youve got a jtagged system then you can play whatever ISO's you want off the hard drive. Like the Black Ops ISO which is out right now and has been for a couple of days on another site.avrame wrote:
One of the things that the newer units does exceptionally well in comparison to the older units is playing games from the hard drive. After an install, the disc is not used for anything aside from booting the game. As far as I can tell, this reduces the heat a bit, and cuts down on the noise drastically.

Just got the slim. It responds on touch not press. Freaked me out when I accidentally turned it on.
Re: Xbox Slim Reliability?
It releases heat from the top and side now. Feels like the same amount or more pushed out, so it's probably a lot cooler inside.

Simply get an original and buy a £10/$17 "intercooler" (we all know its just a bunch of fans). Honestly i've had mine since launch, played Halo 3 to the point where i fogort to sleep, and never once had an over heat or any error, bar my hardrive which USB sticks have solved.
However if your not on a budget go for it and get a slim.

Re: Xbox Slim Reliability?
before i started getting 360's i was looking into cooling and saw the "intercooler".
After some more Googling i saw a couple of pics where the intercooler literally melted in full to the back of the 360. It looked like when you buy a Pizza and pull the first slice , the melted plastic was stretching like cheese when the intercooler was being removed from the back of the 360.

Holy cow those pictures are worrying. Well i have no idea how it could get that hot as mine (made by 4gamers) pumps out a huge amount of air with its 3 fans and hell even my xbox doesnt get that hot without it on. What did those people do place it in a chest of drawers or something???
For the record mine is on top of a polished wooden unit.

Those are from 2006. There was a problem at the time with Nyko, but after those stories broke they muse have solved the problem. Just don't buy any old stock Nyko coolers.Incognito D wrote:Don't know if that's such a good idea, bro.Frizz.Meister wrote:Simply get an original and buy a £10/$17 "intercooler"
