I recently posted about another of my DCs that died. I tried to merge the two together to get one working DC.
After playing around with it a bit more, it appears that the exact same part in each of them died, but give different results. I narrowed it down to the GDROM unit's board. Swapping just the board to another DC, I can reproduce the exact same problem associated with the board.
So I guess the board on the first fried/died and is now constantly telling the disc motor to spin. The game will not read, obviously, so the board is useless.
The second DC (from the thread above) will not power on. Although most signs point to a power board/power pin issue, the exact same DC plays just fine with a new GDROM unit (specifically just swapping the boards).
Anyhow, just thought I would give an update. If you experience either of these symptoms, it is possible that your GDROM board has died. If I knew anything about electronics, I could examine the boards to see if there is a fix. But there is no visible corrosion/damage to the boards, so I figure they are just dead.
Now I just need to find some dead DCs on craigslist and see if their GDROM boards are fine.
