The journey IS the game. I suggest a different mindset to appreciate the game fully. Keep in mind that what you are playing through could not be accomplished in any other medium. It would not work in writing nor cinema. It is a perfect fit for a videogame. Not all 'games' need to 'play' the same way.Hatta wrote:So far I feel about SoC like I did about ICO. riding agro into the vast openness following only a beam of light... sometimes guiding you into dark canyons and caves where there is no light to guide you out... ...discovering ruins of temples and fallen cities... ...riding for miles only to discover your horse can go no further and you must dismount and find your way without your trusty steed... (i could go on)

Yup, all of that makes for such a great game. Amazes me that others don't see the brilliance of Team Ico, but we're all entitled to our opinions so I'm not gonna make a big deal about it.optmusprimenumber wrote:riding agro into the vast openness following only a beam of light... sometimes guiding you into dark canyons and caves where there is no light to guide you out... ...discovering ruins of temples and fallen cities... ...riding for miles only to discover your horse can go no further and you must dismount and find your way without your trusty steed... In my opinion though, they're one of the very small number of development teams that are just waaaayy ahead of their time. That's not to say they're perfect, there were one or two fights in SOTC where I think they could have done a better job making the solution to winning the fight clear. Overall though, I personally think Team Ico is in another league. In an industry full of "me too", generic developers who simply tailor a game's themes and overall design to match whatever is popular, these guys know how to stand out. You don't look at a Team Ico game and go, "yeah, this is kind of like that other INSERT NAME OF POPULAR GAME HERE"

I've put this game in twice and run around on my horse, haven't found a damn thing but empty spaces and maybe 3 lizards.
what happens if you find colossus and don't bother killing them ? why kill them if they aren't attacking you ?
the game looks cool and the animations are very nice...I feel a little lost, maybe I need to rtfm.

Ocelot, did it again...sorry Boss !

Use the sword, hold it up and follow the light. The scenery exploration is part of the enjoyment. To continue on the levels, you have to kill the colossusnate wrote:I've put this game in twice and run around on my horse, haven't found a damn thing but empty spaces and maybe 3 lizards.

Some questions if anyone might know.
Does the PAL version offer a 60hz NTSC mode?
Does anyone know if SOTC Japanese Best version has Additional Footage?

Yeah this was the only real problem I had with SotC. Some of the time it was very vague as to what you were suppose to be doing to kill the collossus. Especially the horse collossus. I've beaten the game like 3 or 4 times and I still don't know how to get on top of that one without tremendous luck.Gamerforlife wrote:there were one or two fights in SOTC where I think they could have done a better job making the solution to winning the fight clear.
I feel old when talking to anyone my age yet too inexperienced to effectively talk to anyone older. Life is grand that way.

Re: Playing Shadow of the Colossus for the first time
I felt the horse was one of the cleverest boss fights in the game actually. It was the big turtley thing in the gave near the geysers that annoyed me.MrEco wrote:Yeah this was the only real problem I had with SotC. That and the final colossus, who i felt was a big let down
