inventory your games and systems

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

inventory your games and systems

Post by cowgod »

i want to give props to diehllane for this idea. he started a thread here that gave me the inspiration to do this:
viewtopic.php?t=3909

i went totally nuts and created a real nice looking spreadsheet to inventory all my games and systems. i decided to give each system its own sheet (tab at the bottom). if anyone has been reluctant to start something like this because creating a template is a pain, or if you never had the idea until now, please do it!

as shallowgamer said in the thread i linked to above, it's a very good idea to have an inventory of your old games and systems (and pictures are a good idea too) in the event that something catastrophic happens to your collection.

here's a screenshot:

download the spreadsheet for:
excel 2007: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/190388/Games%20 ... plate.xlsx
excel 97-2003: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/190388/Games%20 ... mplate.xls

You should like the Game Database that is in development for the site.
You'll be able to track your collection and wishlist on here in the coming months :)

Edit: I don't currently have all of your fields in current development, but they bring up some good ideas that I'll plan on adding.

That sounds really awesome...

I hope there is a "for sale" field that lets you name a price.

Not right off the bat, but I hope to have that functionality once we get everything smoothed out in terms of managing games.

This is going to be really great! You know that, right. There are sites for music and sports and all sorts of jibber-jabber, but i think this will really make you're site even more unique in the game community. Way to keep it interesting! :P

Thanks for the offer :) I've already got a developer I'm working with.
Right now I need the most help with putting data together.
We'll be starting with just Dreamcast at the very beginning to make sure everything is working the way we want.
You can join in on the Dreamcast data here if you want:

I used to use Excel a while back but last year I made the jump to Open Game Lister. Never have bothered finishing off cataloging all of my older stuff....one of these years I'll pull it all out of storage and properly catalog it. At one point I did have all of my NES and PS1 stuff in a spreadsheet, but god knows what the hell happened to it. I also had my PC stuff cataloged at one point....no idea what happened to it and I'm not looking forward to trying to rebuild that one.

....and that reminds me, I need to update the Xbox and Gamecube lists with a few new buys.

Hate to bump an old thread but can anyone reupload the spreadsheet? Or know of any other good programs for inventory of my games?
